Oyokoba, you have touched on a vital nerve that could serve as an effective deterrence. But how about the many thieving Political leaders who have stolen humongous amounts from our coffers and sold away our treasured assets for hidden commissions and vainglorious foreign titles. The last time I checked, one such leader had been honored with a CBE or OBE for leading the sales of our Gold Mines to a British Conglomerate, and living big in South Africa as a Venture Capitalist whose services are even out of the reach of Ghanaians.
I have long been caressing the idea that we ought to push the International Court of Justice to consider corruption by Political Leaders that deprive masses basic comfort and deepens their poverty as crimes against Humanity for which the leaders ought to be tried in the Hague.
If we could have leaders stashing our stolen assets abroad in safe haven Banks only to ignite the kind of strikes as our Doctors and Nurses undertook to cause the needless, avoidable deaths of hundreds of innocent Citizens, those leaders ought to be prosecuted for causing crimes against Humanity. Period!
If the Worlds' Powerful Nations fail to help us plug up the holes that are leaking our Assets, soon our Nations would be so impoverished and unlivable that our mass migrations to Europe like what we see now with the Middle-Easterners may erupt.

Its a shame. Ghana is really going down. It appears the government in power cannot provide adequate re-numeration to staffs. People cannot live on their income, hence they have to resort to other corrupt ways to enrich themselves. However that does not give the judges the right to be collecting bribes to perform what the nation has entrusted them to carry out. We must vote for a competent government to look after mother Ghana. Doctors on strike, Judges who are supposed to protect the rules of the land collecting bribes, nurses not being paid. NDC government is a disgrace to mother Ghana.

An attorney passed on and found himself in Heaven (obviously not a family law lawyer), but was not at all happy with his accommodations. He complained to Saint Peter, who told him his only course of action was to appeal. The lawyer immediately appealed and was told it would take 3 years to hear his appeal. The attorney protested that this was unconscionable, but to no avail.
The lawyer was then approached by the devil who told him that he could have the appeal heard within a few days if the lawyer would change the venue to Hell. When the lawyer asked why appeals were heard so much sooner in Hell, he was told "We have all the judges."

Nobody should apportion blame. Ghanaian Public & Civil Servants have since independence been corrupt. From Kwame Nkrumah's Ghana right down to John Mahaha's Ghana. Even in the Private Sector, there is massive corruption. From the Financial Institution to everywhere. Ghana's corruption is so endermic that the giver and the taker of the bribe see nothing wrong with it. In the study of Bribery and Corruption both the giver and the taker are liable but ask if it's so in practice in Ghana. In Ghana only the Taker(Beneficiary is seen as evil) In the true word of Bribery and Corruption, Anas, Aremeyaw Anas, would have been charged equally like the Judges.

That is what we get for his needlessly stressing that he was giving us a 'Property owning democracy', that he failed to strengthen our Institutions along with.
It was, at least, practically, an oxymoronic principle, since everyone knew and understood and expected that our democracy had an implied, endemic promise of freedom to own property.
It was as if Kufuor's emphasis on 'Property owning' to describe the Democracy he was leading the Nation into was a code-name for frantically scrambling for wealth at all cost, regardless of the rules our Constitution offers to guide us to build wealth.
Not even under Nkrumah's Socialist experiment did we lose our right to amass wealth. The closest Nkrumah went in curbing wealth-seeking, if at all, was introducing his policy of 'One-man, one-car'.
But even so, that policy of Nkrumah's grew out of his attempts to curb corruption among Officials. The Policy really never extended to the general public, some of whom I know owned multiple cars and homes, used for business or luxury without any harassment from the Government.
It is most misleading that Kufuor's Administration created that environment to bolster our productivity. Banks would still not lend businesses much money. And if they did would demand killer rates of return for repayments.
Local Entrepreneurs never had equal access to contracts and business opportunities unless they would share their ownership with some political cronies of the politically powerful. His Administration preferred foreign ownership under the guise of courting foreign investments. Well, we all know, for example, how sweet the deal was he single-handedly signed behind closed-doors to sell our Telecoms to Vodafone. He could, at least, lease our very treasured and expensive Fiber Optic Network to Vodafone. But, no. That was a icing he put on their cake. No Ghanaian entity was invited to bid for any part of the Company. Vodafone had it all to itself at our 'damnest' expense.
Galamsey and reckless stampede of our Forests were allowed take the edge off the unemployment in the Nation while our Timber and minerals were looted at will. What did Akufo-Addo's Attorney-Generalship do to control those nefarious activities? Now, we, the masses, remain all the much poorer with no properties to show for.
Now, we have come to import wood to supplement our needs, and our Forests are at the brink of turning into grassland. We are yet to see any impact of the Oil we sold to the foreign firms in our Economic growth. Sadly only a couple of Ghanaians had any meaningful shares in the Oil wealth directly, and these are said to be the closest friends of Kufuor. If Kufuor was thinking we would all benefit from the Oil wealth immediately in a trickle-down economic fashion, as the Reaganites rammed down the throats of Americans, well, it has not worked for most Ghanaians.
We don't even see the EO-Group expanding its businesses to hire ordinary Ghanaians to boost our employment figures. Soon after taking their first huge share of the sales of the Oil, some $350 Million, the duo partners almost went into reclusion to spend their booty in quiet while we suffer dumsor, dumsor and collapse of our small-to-medium businesses.
Our Institutions like the Judiciary, as portrayed now, were not strengthened or fortified enough to prevent corruption in all places as we see today.
Therefore, I wish President Kufuor sits out on this topic and not mock the rest of us with his weak concern for our well-being, if not totally farcical.
Well, may be we should feel grateful to him for the School feeding program. Huh? That existed under the first Republic, at least, in Day Nurseries.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Does anyone remember the appointment of Justice Afreh to overturn a ruling?
Can anyone say Justice Afreh's judgement was not biased in favour of president Kufuor's wish?
This was president Kufour's stament after the first judgement, whih the state lost to Tsatsu Tsikata - " I have asked the Attorney general to do everthing within the law to reverse that jugement". He subsequentty appointed Justice Afreh and he sat on the appeal.
The result , they got their 'justice' against him.
I like president Kufuor and I supported him in 2000 but I think it was during his tenure as president that the judiciary got currupted.Yes! His regeme is responsible for the curruption we see everywhere now.

It is the irrepressible, pervasive corruption among our Political leaders that has spread to the Judiciary.
If non-political Public Officials who have spent many years studying and working honestly to serve the Nation for long periods can hardly make ends meet, and toddlers come along and are allowed to loot our coffers with impunity to become millionaires overnight, why wouldn't these long-serving poor Officials resort to devious activities to claim their share of the booty, too, or cheat others to amass similar wealth?
Meanwhile, because the National coffers are being looted by these shameless politicians, and our Revenue collections outfits are also milking us, little is left to pay even the salaries of honest working Citizens like Doctors, Teachers and the like.
Many in our Judicial Service, I believe, are in the palms of these corrupt Politicians to give these criminals a legal cover to share their booties with them, in one way or another. The thieving Politicians have always had no fear of the Judiciary because of that. The Judiciary has almost always hatched some legal technicalities upon which to set the looters free, in the end.
