Akwatia, in spite of the contributions its citizens and the town has made to the economy over the years has been neglected by successive governments. This, owing to the demise of GCD,contrary to what this corrupted chief said at the festival has driven out the youth of this once vibrant mining town to seek pastures green elsewhere. It's a high time this bridge was constructed to help link the neighbouring towns and villages to Akwatia to help boost the economy of this town I care for so much.

The Roads must not simply be rehabilitated into some dirt, clay-plastered or graveled routes for conveying the Cocoa in the interim.
They should be well built, up to modern perennial standards, so that they do not develop pot-holes again, soon after the Cocoa has been carted out. These Roads have always been attended to by the Politicians to court votes, and neglected when the Elections are over and the politicians get what they sought for with them.
It is about time we began building quality Roads that last for a long time, giving them the necessary attention called for by the weight of traffic on those Roads.
In fact, many Roads in the Eastern, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, and far Upper-East, Central and Western Regions have either been neglected for far too long, and/or built without proper consideration of the amount of annual moisture and traffic that pound them throughout the year.
Paved Roads in the Western Region, especially the Enchi-Sameraboi area never got the right amount of firming and coating of Bitumen. They would look shiny and great for only a few weeks of existence and then suddenly burst into a wave of pot-hole popping. Then they would be ignored for lots of folks to die in accidents, and businesses collapse from inaccessibility to commerce centers, and lots of Cocoa smuggled in the opposite direction into the Ivory Coast, until the next Elections approach.
We cannot sustain growth as a Nation with that kind of terrible lack of proper, durable infrastructure and good maintenance culture.
Such is what makes me question the usefulness of the howling and yelling of the Nduoms, the Freddie and Georgina Blays, and similar big wigs in our national leadership.
It does not matter whether or not these folks are prominent in private or public domain. The fact remains that they could do more to help straighten up the mess on these roads in their backyard.
This reference to these folks is similar to that I made elsewhere regarding the deplorable Roads in Ashanti, especially, when the Bantama-Koforidua (Ashanti) Road, a section of the Kumasi-Suyani Highway, was long neglected and could always be seen as a long stretch of red muddy puddle that traffic got caught in for hours on end in 2012.
I kept wondering what in the World our local Chiefs were doing with all the Royalties they received from the Government accrued from Gold and Timber and other Natural Resources tapped from the Region.
In the very least, these local Authorities could raise a fund from the Royalties to lend financial assistance to the Contractors to finish the Roads before more lives were lost.
Long Live Ghana!!!
