Isn't the local government corrupt enough by itself? Why then will any sensible person want to revolve it around chieftaincy. The chiefs like the police are recognized in the society as very very corrupt. After exhausting selling the lands now they want to dig their hands into the local govt. Are we that stupid??
Keep then where they are and please don't invite them to come and sell the local govt to the Chinese as they have done with our lands.
Ghana we have a problem!!!!

Traditional institution is part of local govt but local govt should not revolve around traditional institution. We should be careful not to drag the traditional institution into politics.

Ghanaian Chiefs are part of the corruption tree that is destroying the country. If a Chief can give farmlands under his care to smelly Chinese criminals to destroy in galamsey, what positive influence can such a criminal have in Ghana's governance? Let them sit down unconcerned and let the lands get destroyed, 20 years from now they will see where their food will come from. In addition if some Chief in Hohoe can order a dead body exhumed and discarded in the open, what positive contribution can such a person give to the governance of a Nation. Ghanaian Chiefs are not what they used to be. These days anybody with money can influence King makers to install them as a Chief no matter how shady a character such a person may be.

Nowadays we have many chiefs who are very well educated even more than District Executive Officers and majority of our parliamentarians.
These post independence Chiefs should either use the National house of chiefs to play the role of stewards of their traditional areas, reorganize the Asafo system, and pursue rigorous electrification and housing projects in the villages under their jurisdiction, working together with the District Executive Officers in their areas, using computers to manage the affairs of the area.
Let's not forget that we live in the 21st. century.

Chiefs are not elected and can therefore have no role to play beyond the ceremonial. They are only good to be dressed up and sat in front a crowd gathering. Until Chiefs are selected through a democratic process, let's leave them where they are; ceremonial and traditional symbols of culture. They can continue to sell the people's land.

This is yet another proof there are no wise men and women left in Ghana post 1966 with foresight. In haste to put tribal mediocity above Nkrumah era intellectual supremacy we had our parliament put together articles that established the decentralized urban and rural planning and development scheme which we find to be inadequate some 10 years after implementation.
And as sure as the sun rises and set each day we have Ghanaians of the NPP stripes who continue to justify use of barbarism and terror to overthrow legitimate governments or make Ghana ungovernable even when their handiwork shows them to be intellectually inferior at logical thinking processes unless guided by their puppet masters. So at this late hour it came as an epiphany to the modern day idiotic crowd that chiefs who were at the center of the centralized scheme under the Nkrumah era should be where they ought to have been from the get go. Nkrumah knew from the get go that there are tribes in Ghana who cherish money over love of country and who at any given opportunity will sell out Ghana for their selfish and personal riches and lo and behold it has come pass by the very actions of what has transpired in Ghana over the past 30+ years.

The chieftaincy institution must rather be scrapped totally. Beneath all our socioeconomic problems is this institution which has become a parallel authority in the scheme of our national development efforts. We made a very big mistake to leave the issue of land in the hands of chiefs . A look at our haphazard built environment is attributable to chieftaincy. Difficulty in we going fully commercial with farming is caused by chieftaincy. The numerous security threats all over the country is due to this chieftaincy institution. Lets face these hard facts and scrap it if we want our country to move forward.
