Has Alhaji Daud been identified and arrested? Is Alhaji Daud the same as the Businessman mentioned in Hannah Tetteh's statement?
If the VVIP staff processed Ms Ametefeh and two other women then, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should have at least the names of the two other women. Have they passed on those details to the British authorities?
There are more questions than answers on this case. We are watching with interest.

Clearly, you have no idea how govt institutions work. Selling the ECG will be a worse and a more stupid idea than the sale of Ghana Cement Works to foreign exploiters.
All these sales of the family jewels (national property) is not because these cheap govts want those state institutions to work better - after all what do they care if these facilities work better or not? It is only because the sale of these institutions give these wicked politicians a life-time opportunity of mouth-watering kick-backs (soli) to be rich forever. Go and ask Rawlings and Kufuor to tell you the inside story.
They the politicians personally make a lot of money out of these privatization scams at the end of the day and there is no doubt about this.
That is why they impose management personnel who they very well know are incompetent and cannot do the job in these institutions. That way, they can then turn around later and confirm that state institutions dont work so they must be sold.
If by any unforeseen chance the management personnel in charge of any of these state institutions show credible and promising ability that debunks the govt plan to sell, they are sacked without any cogent reasons, as has happened to the MD of the Electricity Corporation recently.
The question I ask is that, if these foreign companies well and truly want to invest in any sector of the economy, why dont they come in and start whatever industry that is their chosen field, from scratch? Why do they always want to buy state property which are classified as nonviable through their local pimps?
The most annoying aspect to all this is that, after selling these organizations, they then instal another Ghanaian management which govt had claimed was incompetent and incapable to manage the company.

Mr. Brekorang's arguments are not solid. If ECG is bloated and there are people twitching their fingers all day, then something needs to be done.
Although ECG has been appealing to people to conserve electricity the response is tepid. Full recovery is the way to go. People will start conserving electricity once they feel the pinch.
On the other hand is there is shortage of workers to properly man ECG then Mr. Brekorang has a case. I hope he is not looking for an avenue to embark on strike.

Each government which comes to power in Ghana seeks to sell a strategic public utility such as ECG, Ghana Telecom for short term gains. Are our leaders visionary? What will our future generations live on? Why are gradually surrendering our economic sovereignty to foreign buyers? We need to tread carefully with such sales. The ordinary poor people will be further marginalised and impoverished with such sales of heirlooms such as ECG.

The problem is Ghana is rather the government owning assets they cannot manage. Managing businesses is different from managing sectors of an economy. Businesses must be owned by the people. WE should encourage Govt to list all sensitive businesses on the stock exchange. Ghanaians can then buy the stocks and own a part of the company too. Management then will have to answer to the people and not government as they will be regulated by the SEC, the Bank of Ghana and by the Utility Commission and also other regulatory bodies. SIMPLE SOLUTION TO A SIMPLE PROBLEM.

This is good news folks. Electricity is a capital intensive business, which requires investments every 5years to make it efficient. The right way is to privatize it. I work as a treasury manager for a utility company here in the USA. My company serves 1.2 million households and industries which is far less than ECGs estimated 8million households and industry. But my company is listed on the NewYork stock Exchange an issues its own debt which i sign off. We have a 5yr modernization plan where we will be spending over $5 billion to upgrade aging infrastructure. I don't think it it wise for Government to be in the power business. They should list ECG on the stock market so that they become responsible to shareholders. Govt can always control ECG via regulations as is being done over here. God bless Ghana. And i will personally buy ECG shares because it is a "cash cow".

My travel around the world has show that utility and waste management is done better when it is in the hands of the state. Someone is even writing that the involvement of private sector will raise the price of utilities that people will not be able to afford it and to him that is a good thing, just as part of the population in capitalist countries are not able to afford accommodation sleeping in drainage. Imagine that a private power generator shutting down his generating unit for 10 months. Nobody should dream of handing over power generation to the private sector because even France and North Korea has not done so.

GES banned all forms of corporal punishment in Educational institutions but there are reports that some tertiary institutions are still carrying out this practice. Asking students to kneel down and so on.
Lecturers in tertiary institutions must recognize the fact that students in these institution are adults.

We need to change our old mind set if any nation wants to make a headway in today's world then no doubt the best way to go is privatization check it out in almost all developed nations.Govt can not continue to be provider of all utility services that sector needs to floated just as JJ did with mobile phones and phones in general.Competition is great it looks scary looking from outside but quit the scare and try it.Everybody was crying when JJ brought up privatization of the Telephony because folks only think about the short term and about the chop chop they are getting there when govt is in charge but ask yourself has anything owned by govt ever succeeded?Just show me one. Please do not be scared because competition in great for the consumer.I do not the number times I have changed my electricity, mobile, water etc suppliers.I continue to compare customer service and pricing and the other company drops prices and I get recommendations from various users or friends I terminate the other and go to the other. There are others who may demand a year or two contract but others do not so I have the luxury to decide others will even pay for the remainder of your just for you to switch and that is what we need in Ghana because the water and electricity departments have not performed not just in recent years but for over several decades. The people are tired of the down town excuses enough is enough.Private investors from Britain,USA,Germany,Canada etc.will pump money heavily to give folks something better than this every regime dumsor dumsor.Nation in today's world can ever move forward without consistent, good electricity, water, medical, roads etc.and these can only be achieved via privatization.Thanks.
