After being in power for six years with high commodity prices including the newly found oil money, and after recklessly borrowing to the tune of about 60% of the GDP or more for useless "oil curse" expenses and dubious contracts, forcing the Cedi to depreciate to about 40% of its value in few months and rushing to IMF for a bail out, the NDC government is now propagating deceitfully that it is seeking to reduce Ghana's import bill on rice, sugar, tomatoes, among other items, by encouraging the production of those commodities locally.
The question discerning Ghanaians are asking is this, "does the NDC government think that Ghanaians believe they are realistic and serious when they have only two years left to leave office?" Food production is a priority that should have been started and nursed since 2009. But unfortunately, they said they are still looking for ways to start it next year or so. These guys can really cook figures to deceive Ghanaians, but I'm not sure they can cook figures to deceive the IMF. Can they?

The market "queens" (yam, pepper, onion, tomato etc. every product has its queen in the commodity value chains) together with the transport owners/drivers are the causes of these problems. They are not prepared to listen, develop, better and modernize their methods of business to enhance product value. The referees(MoTI & MoFA)of all the countries involved should call the tune and stamp authority.Very strict Policy Guidelines are needed. After all if the problems arise it is state resources which are used to solve them.CEDEAO-ECOWAS where are your trade policies?
