This is unbelievable, it almost defeats the purpose of cleaning but this has been the case since time immemorial when there were working "gutter men", they would leave the dirt on the sides of the gutter and then the rains wash them back in. So much money go into individual pockets but we don't have any plans to cover the gutters. We are always going to have cases of cholera so long as we keep the filth up! This monthly cleaning is just smoke and mirrors if we don't have a proper sanitation management program - daily cleaning/sweeping of gutters and streets and good garbage cans as well as toilets for the public to use.

There was a time when thousands of Ghanaians had to share one drinking cup provided by the "Ice water" sellers. Ghana turned a corner with the turn of the century. Satchets of water, popularly called "pure water" has replaced the Earthenware pots in which water vendors stored their merchandise. This is a huge stride in terms of civility and infection control. The downside of this huge development is that most of this "satchet water" or Pure water, is consumed outside of the homes. After consumers drink the water, they drop the highly non-biodegradable plastic satchets on the streets which eventually find themselves in the gutters and culverts.causing pollution and flooding. It is very noble and commendable that the President, Otumfour and all the big Cahunas teamed up to clean the gutters and streets of our great country. However if the good citizens of Ghana are not provided with trash receptacles across the cities, even a weekly clean up will not be enough to keep our cities clean. We also need more education through the various media outlets. I was in Ghana a couple of weeks ago and anytime I go out and buy something with a wrapper, I will keep the wrapper after consuming the item, until I get home before I dispose of it in the trash can. My friends and family did not understand why I was doing that.I tried to educate them the need for a cleaner enviroment. So Mr Mayor, you have lived in The States before, give your people a reason not to dump trash anywhere and everywhere.Accra is beautiful and we need to keep her streets clean.

This NDC fools have no plans let alone the basic common sense. How can you remove rubbish only to leave on the side of the gutter for the wind or the next rain to send it back into the drains? These are people who cannot see beyond their next step claiming they are leading people. Can some one tell them the evil dwarfs that next time they should arrange for the rubbish to be collected. Brainless human beings indeed led by a visionless pseudo president called mahama.

I wonder if Mahama compares cities with his own. If he does what is he doing about it?
It is time the people refused to pay taxes, for what are they using our tax money for?
This NDC government sucks and must be made accountable to the people or if the kitchen is too hot, to get out of there and allow Akufo Addo and Dr. Bawumia the chance to remedy the nation. Maka Maka. Enough is Enough.

This is exactly why some of us question the wisdom of the president and chiefs to waste their precious time doing the work of somebody who is being paid to do that job. Instead of these leaders wasting their energy I think they are better off getting rid of persons who are not doing their jobs and replacing them with competent persons. They will be wasting less energy in that process and will have a lot of energy to do other useful things that will benefit the nation. Who in Ghana will buy a bus to make money and when his driver does not bring daily sales will rather go and help the driver find passengers? The obvious thing is to replace the driver and the aplanke!

The legacy of JJ RAWLINGS. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE KNEE INSTEAD OF THE HEAD IS WEARING THE CAP. As I was growing up in the mid-60s and early 70s, our gutters were cleaned every day. I saw workers in wellington boots, with scrubbing brushes and wheel barrows cleaning the gutters. A supervisor shows up as they work everyday. Then a rubbish collection truck follows, and they put what they have collected in the wheel barrows into the truck. Cleaning the gutters was a whole occupation for many people then. What prevents the AMA from going back to this? The money the useless politicians use in buying vehicles to bribe chiefs can easily buy wheel barrows, wellington boots and the trucks to cart the rubbish collected from the gutters. It will also give employment to many who are not employed. Why are they not doing this? If they can focus on working for Ghana like they do on 'when the next election is due, and how to win it', Ghana will look great. If people can't think like this, what are they doing in leadership position?

I was in Ghana last August to September and there was a similar exercise and the filth with all the sand that came out of the gutter stayed on the street for two weeks before it was finally cleared. What is the point after it had rained and 50 percent of the sand had gone back into the gutter before they AMA came back to collect the rest. Stupid mayor who went about to make shop owners break down the sheds in from of their shops before coming back to give them a measurement in stead of him making them pull down everything before spending money to rebuild again
