It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

The other so-called professor that want to use Nkruma's rule as a good example needs to go back to school again. These socialists' arguments could deceive Ghanaians in the 50s and 60s but they cannot do so now. Nkrumah was the first to introduced debt into this nation by borrowing massively to finance his whims and caprices. It was actually a misfortune that we had such a person as president immediately after the independence.
Ghana had a reserve of about 1bln dollars when he took over the reins of government in this country. Do you know what the value of one billion dollars was in the early fifties? Again, after 2years of Nkrumah's rule, cocoa prices at the world market rocketed and increased fourfold, but he did not do anything to reserve part of the money for a rainy day as the Whitman did for Ghana. What did he do with all that money? He went on a spending spree both in Ghana and around the world talking big. And when the cocoa prices close to the end of his rein dropped, he was quick to point accusing fingers at the West blaming them for trying to sabotage the economy of Ghana and overthrow his government. Finally, before Kwame Nkrumah left this country, he had uncured and burdened our young nation with another one billion dollar debt. Nkrumah met Ghana rich, and left it nearly bankrupt.

The question is how do we as a people find, nurture and draft such transformative leaders to run for office?
Of the present crop of leaders who has the vision, the tenacity, selflessness and more importantly, the belief in the ascendany of the Africa of tomorrow?
Let's start the task of looking for those leaders from within.

Why always these insults when people like you disagree or don't like the opinion of others?
Some of you are so obsessed with Kwame Nkrumah that you don't even take time to accept his mistakes which are some of the causes of Ghana's woes now.
Blind arguments are part of Ghana's problems too for if we will be truthful to ourselves, what has socialism contributed to the development of this world?
All we get and hear from you followers of Nkrumah are insults and misleading praises of his achievements but if he had forged good relationship with the west instead of pursuing socialist and communist ideas,Ghana would have by far been better off than it is now.
After independence, the population of the country was less than five million and if we had a leader who loved the country and focused on developments other than embarking on an impossible task of uniting Africa, think of what would have been achieved.
How come that you never mention the recklessness of your hero like handing to CPP activists free estates at Nyaniba,Kanda Tema, our money wasted on the formation of Ghana,,Guinea,Mali solidarity etc etc?
A good leader can not be associated with someone who claim to fight for independence from colonial rule only to oppress his own people for not agreeing with him.
You may be alright with his reign of terror but but some of us don't so stop raining insults for we know where Ghana would have been/like had he been allowed to rule with his communist ideas.
Freedom of expression which you're enjoying now was unheard of during his reign so it's about time you wake up and accept some facts about authoritarian regimes.

do you know why i heap insults? becos u refuse to think. u ask wat has socialism done to mankind? ghana still sends students to cuba, abi? no system is perfect but i will take socialism over capitalism and communism anyday! socialism in ghana was the reason why many got free education and healthcare in nkrumah Ghana! look at the plight of poor students in ghana today who have no money to get educational opportunity and healthcare?
u are a fool! nothing is impossible u asshole! was nkrumah not developing the country? no president after nkrumah has managed to do a quarter of what he did! u are a fool! look at why western nations like usa, etc involve themselves in the politics of other nations? what were actions of usa, canada in liberation struggles during ww2, diepe, holland, hitler germany, etc....french involvement in ivory coast, their involvement in american independence? there is nothing wrong with helping others, u selfish imbecile! how did nkrumah oppress his own people? by imprisoning danquah and others with tried to kill him over and over? what did jj do to his detractors? from busia, acheampong, akuffu...what became of ghana after nkrumah? even the westerners have borrowed his ideas lkke the eu and using them. if freedom of expression was unheard off, then why did peoole vote in a referendum then? capitalism is dog eat dog and solely money reliant. there is no western country on this earth that is wholly CAPITALIST!

Books on Osagyefo Dr Prof Kwame Nkrumah is not easy to get because, the Kotoka/Afrifa/Harley Military Junta which overthrown Dr Nkrumah's CPP gov't, burned all his books in a national Bonfires in each City or Town across the Country at the time, except the few hidden by some brave individuals in their homes..And lo and behold !, now they want them.God damm the families of those who planned and executed the Coup !
Again,in this World we have Leaders and Followers. Not any human-being can be the leader.Because it takes Selflessness,Planning,Compassion for the ordinary man in the Street or concerns about the majority weak, poor and destitute, Foresight, etc etc to get your people to the promise land. Therefore, whether we like it or not, morons are the many amongst us.Those with the right ideas and ideals are only about 25 percent out of 100 everywhere in the world.
Now,the problem in Ghana is that, the moronic majority of 75 percent would not listen to give the few most Sensible born- leaders among us,the chance to Lead. So,we have a situation where almost everyone thinks he can be the leader ; because,he has been to School, forgetting that Common Sense approach, selflessness and compassion for the people are not founded in Books anywhere in the world, but in the DNA of the person. Therefore,a moron is a moron with a PhD or without it.
Give those who exhibit Common Sense approach the chance to Lead !

WE ARE VERY UNFORTUNATE TO HAVE THE CROPS OF LEADERSHIP THAT HAS PLAGUED US THEY ARE WORSE THAN EBOLA IT SELF!!!
FIRST OF ALL MOST OF THEM DO NOT HAVE ANY BUSINESS LEADING THEIR VARIOUS COUNTRIES APART FROM STEALING,
THEY DO NOT EVEN KNOW THAT THEY ARE DESTROYING THE CONTINENT,
1/TAKE EBOLA, THIS IS A WEAPON USED AGAINST THE MAJOR DIAMOND PRODUCING COUNTRIES IN WEST AFRICA. ONLY BECAUSE ONE OF THEM HAS A DIAMOND CUTTING FACTORY.AND THEY NEED TO STOP THE POSSIBILITY OF DIAMONDS GOING TO GHANA, SO THEY BROUGHT EBOLA TO KILL US . IT IS NOTHING FOR THEM .
2/THESE LEADERS DO NOT EVEN KNOW THAT ANY ONE OF THEM WHO TRY TO UNITE THE CONTINENT SERIOUSLY WILL MEET WITH UNTIMELY DEATH,
EVEN ANY ONE WHO TRY TO GIVE CHINA OR RUSSIA ANY DEAL ON THEIR NATURAL RESOURCES WILL BE KILLED BY THOSE WHO NEVER USED TO PAY FOR OUR NATURAL RESOURCES , AND NOW THINK THEY ARE BONA FIDE OWNERS OF AFRICA'S WEALTH.
3/OUR CORRUPT LEADERS SKELETONS ARE IN THE CUPBOARD OF THE IMPERIALISTS AND COLONIALISTS.THEY WILL EXPOSE THEM IF THEY BLINK.
4/ LOOK AT PROPHET TB JOSHUA'S CASE , HE DID NOT KNOW THAT THE WEST DOES NOT APPROVE OF WHAT HE IS DOING , AS HE IS INTEGRATING AFRICANS FROM THE DIASPORA AND MAKING AFRICANS TO INTERACT WHICH CAN LEAD TO GREATER UNITY AND DIFFUSING THE LIES AND FALSE PROPAGANDA MACHINERY OF THE WEST THAT INHIBITS OUR UNITY. AND HAS MADE US SUSPICIOUS OF ONE ANOTHER,
5/ THE KNOWLEDGE THAT IF AFRICA UNITE THEY LOSE A LOT, THEY WILL NEVER ALLOW IT EVEN IF THEY HAVE TO KILL ALL OF US, AND THEY HAVE ENOUGH STOCKPILE OF GERMS AND VIRUSES TO DO IT, ARE THEY NOT THE UNITED NATIONS ?
WE ARE NOT PART OF IT WE ARE THE VICTIMS OF THE UN!!
WELL I HEARD THE FORMER DIRECTOR OF CIA SAY CATEGORICALLY WHILE I WAS IN NEW YORK ON TELEVISION THAT THE USA DOES NOT REALLY CARE WHAT FORM OF SYSTEM WE OPERATE IN AFRICA, WHETHER IT IS DEMOCRACY, COMMUNISM, OR CANNIBALISM, AS LONG AS THE GOVTS. DANCE TO THE TUNE OF USA.THINK ABOUT THESE YOU BETRAYALS OF LEADERS IN AFRICA!!

Patrice Lumumba and Tafaawa Balewa were founding Prime Ministers of DR Congo and Nigeria at independence, just like Nkrumeh in Ghana's case. Executive powers were in the PM's office while both countries have ceremonial Presidents. In Ghana's case, ceremonial activities continued to be exercised by a Governor on behalf of the Queen of England until the country became a Republic in 1960. I hope the Professor will take note.

I find it hard to believe that even supposed intellectuals join in this juvenile argument of Africa being rich with mineral and other primary goods in abundance.
The reason i don't subscribe to this is, it's lack of knowledge and know how which don't make Africa progress or rich.Yes we boast of having all these resources but do we know how to turn them to real wealth?
That's the question we must find answer to instead of beating about in the bush.
We must all admit that we need to stop blaming others and rather seek to put our brains to good use to turn the fortunes of Ghana(Africa) and it's people.
How long can we continue to find excuses for our failures while others keep leaving us behind?
Lets get over hatred, greed, stupid tribal sentiments and unite to work together to find lasting solutions to our unending problems.
Running to ask or beg for aids, loans bla bla must stop and now.
Let's put our BRAINS to good use.

African presidents are just there for own glory, prestige and enrichment the worst being Mobutu, arap Moi,Mubarak,Nguema Mbasogo,Mugabe,Museveni and Ben Ali of Tunisia. No vision,no ethics or rule of law and no lasting institutions of governance bcoz they think only to invest personality cult.If you don't build a foundation to outlast you and where ideas and mission are more important than you(good -examples are Mandela,MLK and Gandhi) then you're never going to transform African nations.Thats what sets great leaders apart-the knowledge that the mission is more important than the originator or messanger. But our senseless leaders are all about self that's why they fail.

hOWEEVER, MY QUESTION IS WHY HAVE AFRICAN SO CALLED EDUCATED WITH BIG TITLES STILL FAILED TO HAVE THE ABILITY IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AS A DRIVE TO SCIENTIFIC INNOVATION TO ACCELERATE SUSTAINABLE ECONOMNIC DEVELOPMENT IN OUR CONTINENT.
LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE ARE ALSO PART OF THE SOLUTION,BUT,IT IS A PITY AND SAD THAT, THE AFRICAN SO CALLED EDUCATED HAVE STILL NOT BEEN PRODUCTIVE TO TRANSFORM GHANA AND CONTINENT TO PROSPERITY.
ARE AFRICANS EDUCATED AND FOR THEIR GOVERNMENTS TO PROVIDE EVERYTHING FOR FREE TO THEM.
THE QUESTION IS, WHY DO WE GO TO SCHOOL, WHY DO WE LEARN AND WHY ARE WE EDUCATED.
SHOULD AFRICAN COCOA AND COFFEE FARMERS AND UNSKILLED MINE WORKERS BE THE ONLY SOLE PEOPLE TO WORK HARD AND TO EARN THE CONTINENTS HARD CURRENCIES TO SERVICE NATIONAL ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL BUDGETS.
THE EDUCATED ARE STRICTLY ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM HIDING AT THE BACK OF OUR CONTINUED UNDERDEVELOPMEN AND ALWAYS TO BLAME THE LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE.
THS IS TOTALLY WRONG AND WRONG.
THE EDUCATED HAVE UNDERDEVELOPED GHANA AND THE CONTINENT OF AFRICA.
