Government must pass a law similar to the wearing of seat belts in cars. You pay a fine if you are caught not wearing a life jacket just as is done for not wearing a seat belt.

There is know life jacket there,or even if there is one they will ask them to pay if you want to wear it,I don't think it for free in Ghana why am I saying this,if there was life jacket at least not all of them will reject it ... read full comment

Having travelled over the Volta for sometime I can say for a fact that most of the life jackets have become so bad, dirty and full of dirty oil that those neatly dressed find it repulsive even touching it let alone strapping ... read full comment

I know some people will say it's still better in that state than to risk getting drowned
My argument is that we should also ensure that the life jackets are maintained regularly

I cannot wear something filthy,dirty and disgusting,and will challenge the handlers on the quality of it,before using them.
The management and the so-called naval officers should know and do better.
THEY HAVE TO FIND A MEANS OF SANITIZING THE LIFE JACKETS before putting them to use.
If they are for the safety of each passenger,then they should,as well, ensure the proper state and use of the life jackets.
ALL THESE COMMUTERS ALSO QUALIFY TO LIVE LIKE THEM.THEY BELONG,AND MUST BE RESPECTED.

In Ghana you don't stand a chance when your boat capsizes with or without a jacket. I am sure 99.9% of firefighters can't swim. Disgraceful lot.
