Caning and beating has surely evidenced itself by large as a failure most often in eduction.
In a country like Germany, where the police would arrest a teacher for beating a child, there is surely less lying, tricking, defrauding (incl. tax-evading) and e.g. also anonymous insults (on the internet) to be observed in everyday matters among pupils and adults alike.
Even in England, where canings where still allowed at least until the time I attended primary school there, the level of criminality and deviant behaviour among children and youths is evidently, obviously much higher than in Germany.
Of course, parents and teachers and administration and the whole of society have to develop alternative means of education and sanctions.
Parents in Ghana should not shove responsibility for education solely to the teachers, as is tendentially still often to be observed, because the parents are too busy or indifferent.
