This story is too sensational. What really are the facts? Did Mensah insult the chief and his elders or did he just argue his case in front of the chief and his elders? Did Mensah and his friend Frimpong have a genuine case and they felt the chief and his elders were not being fair to them, or was the reverse the truth?
As much as I believe our elders are 'gods' and must be respected at all times, I also believe that when our elders are wrong, there is no reason they cannot be challenged, and challenging them to a truth is not the same as disrespecting them. The gods of our forefathers were not biased, and would not just bring disaster on anybody just for defending the truth.
If it is true that the gods struck Mensah down for being disrespectful to his elders, then I would say our fathers gods have slept for far too long, and would hope that this is the beginning of things to come. From North to South, from top to bottom, our country is suffering too much under the weight of lies and evil doings and we have been waiting for help to tackle such canker for too long. The battle must spread far and wide from Ayigya, and it must start now. If our elders tell lies to their subjects, they must receive immediate punishment; if our men tell lies to their wives, or vice versa, they must receive their just punishment.
This should not only be contained in our country, but it should apply wherever our people may be. If a white man cheats any Ghanaian, he should suffer the same fate. This would tell the world that the gods of our ancestors are, in fact, still alive! Then let the white man come again and tell us that we worship idols.
This would not be a case of vengeance. It is the truth about human beings. We were created to live in harmony and at peace with each other. But our world has been turned upside down by the few who are able to live on lies and wickedness. The many who cannot compete on that level are the suffering masses around us all. Their deliverance can only come if our gods will visit us again and cause proper exodus for everybody.
Having said all that, I would also add that Mensah’s illness may only be a coincidence. He could have suffered the same illness that day even if he had been at home reading a nice magazine or the newspapers. Hopefully, he was lucky he had people around him at the time it happened, which gave him a chance of having immediate medical attention, and we all wish him a speed recovery.
