The leadership of the GJA needs to disabuse the minds of their entire membership about the conception that they are above the law and are therefore untouchable just because they can write. Everybody (well the majority of Ghanaians) can write. You see, writing is like driving. I have a driver, not because I cannot drive but for convenience. Why should journalists in this country think they are special and should never be challenged? Looks to me like most journalists have the erroneous idea that any profession apart from theirs is composed of villains who are out to get journalists. Question is what have journalists done to warrant this paranoia and the tendency to go on the defensive even when they have erred? The days when any action by the security services were condemned at the whims of all civilians are long gone. You may want to read the comments that followed your article. Let's mature as a nation and stop this cheap archaic antics.

This a Military Barracks and not a Hotel for anyone to get in just like that,to filming or taking Pictures. Recently a Journalist, dress himself as a Priest to see former World Formel I champion Mr Schumaher at his hospital Bed, which no one is allowed to see him or take pictures without permission, he was suspected, and found that he was not a Priest instead a journalist, he was driven out and Police arrested him for charges, and so may others. Anything can happen in Ghana also, so the Military were right to seize the Camera, and drive this indiscipline journalist. Please you have no apology.

Research has shown that some assassins dressed as journalist and carrying cameras, microphones with names of reputable pres houses inscribed on them have beaten security boundaries and shot at and killed Presidents and VIPS.No where in the civilized world can a journalist or what ever he call himself go to such events without accreditation for what ever reason and be allowed to take pictures. The TV reporter should not have been allowed on the grounds of the parade in the first place. The soldier who seized the camera was absolutely right although he could have been diplomatic and refrained from heckling and manhandling. The reporter's proceeding to the parade without his accreditation goes against all professional and legal standards. Ghana cannot afford this kind of indiscipline. The GJA rather needs to sanction the reporter for unprofessional conduct, violating accreditation rules and endangering the security of a national security installation by entering without proper identification. It is the GJA that should be apologizing to the military authorities not the other way round!

A Drug Enforcement Officer stopped at a ranch in Techiman , and talked with an old rancher.
He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs."
The rancher said, "Okay , but don't go in that field over there.....", as he pointed out the location.
The DEA officer verbally exploded saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Central Government with me !"
Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher.
"See this badge?! This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land !!
No questions asked or answers given!! Have I made myself clear......do you understand ?!!"
The rancher nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores.
A short time later, the old rancher heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the DEA officer running for his life, being chased by the rancher's big Argentinian bull...
With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that he'd sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified.
The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs.....
"Your badge, show him your FUCKING BADGE..

Price willy as a matter of state security and predominant attacks by unsuspected assailants,it is important for every invitee to carry his or her invitation card for accreditation.Even though they went and picked him from home, it is equally vital to show his ID card to avoid unexpected circumstances like the one metted out to him.In the advance coutries, organizers of any programme put on their badges of identification to proof their genuineness in the conference hall to accertain their menbership. The GJA should re educate its members on this simple phinominon since it is one of the ingredients of security in such a place like the military facility. You must also not forget that military men are trained in security consciousness which the subordinate officers are made to bear responsibility of lapses occure in their areas of operation and for this reason they dont give a damn when they are persuing their military ordinances. It is quite unfurtunate but this is how the military men behave in the course of their ordnung verantwartung.

It is hard time we started calling the bluff some groups of persons who think they are untouchable and can always dictate the direction and pace to the rest of society. What happened is a simple matter. You claim to be a smart journalist and yet you go to a programme without your ID card. Any Tom, Dick and Harry could pick up a camera close to yours, print a TV3 sticker and paste on the camera as a form of identification when the person is not. And remember, this is a security zone and I salute the military man for his action. A security-conscious civilian as I am myself would have acted in no different way. It is therefore disappointing to me that, the Western Region GJA is rather supporting their colleague for his negligent conduct instead of advising him to ensure that his ID is on him at all material working times. In as much as organizations want their some of their activities made public, media houses should equally know that they need the news to sell and make profit and also earn their salaries. In fact they should even be buying the news other than the other way round where they want us to even give them envelops before they broadcast our events. GJA advise your membership to keep their IDs intact since there are equally fake ones who could misconduct themselves and tarnish the reputation of the media houses they pretend to represent. A threat to the military, for me is uncalled for, after all the PRO was kind enough to apologise to the journalist.

To be good and patriotic citizens we need to add discipline. Again, we also need to look at issues constructively instead of always trying to share blames or criticize. I think the soldier was only doing his job which to me he needs even to be recommended because anybody ( I mean enemy) at all could have gone to the groundS there and claim to be a journalist and at the end cause havoc. With that we will be quick to blame the security. Please let us be more security conscious. The best the journalist should have done was to inform the PRO (whom he approached when he realize he was in trouble) to get him a form of identification than to take the law into his own hands. I also want to say that a rule is a rule and with this, all journalists know that identification at a function is very important and crucial and I think they also know what to do or how to act if some how they forget their ID (human as we are). I therefore think the WR journalist Association should rather caution the so called journalist so that others will not take advantage of it to cause havoc if they truly love our country instead of making a case out of this. After all the camera was given back to the journalist. Long live Ghana

This media guys should be schooled to behave when attending Militery events. You claim you forgot your ID, the first thing you should have done was to speak to the military PRO and seek clearance before you start anything, at least you had the sense to contact the officer when the camera was taken away from you, and because you can use the pen you decided to make it news, the soldier was there to ensure security for all the persons present, and without your accreditation he saw you as a threat. How can you travel abroad with the plane if you left your passport at home because you were in a hurry, nonsense . The military officer shouldn't have rendered any apology, you were driven in a military vehicle and so what? You media guys are misbehaving and must grow up. And do I understand that the GJA in the western region are backing you? For God sake you and the GJA executives must grow up.

Ghanaians take things for granted and that is why we are where we are! Forgetting your ID card and going to carry on an assignment as a Journalist in such a sensitive environment is simply UNPARDONABLE if NOT STUPID. NO TEARS FOR YOUR INEPTITUDE. This is tantamount to a Taxi driver who forgets his Driver's License and expects the Police Road block personnel to EXCUSE him for a STUPID VIOLATION. The army could have detained him without any apologies. Learn to CARRY YOUR ID CARD AROUND YOUR NECK. No SYMPATHIES!

I am appalled by this position of the Western Regional GJA. Where did the army erred? Journalists all over the world are identified at a function by their Identity Cards. Can a journalist without an ID be allowed into the White House or The Pentagon, just by claiming he works for CNN or BBC?
Shamefully, the whole association in that region is backing him for his negligence just to embarrass the Military, all in the name of heckling.
Elsewhere, Ebenac would have been treated as terrorist.

Do Ghanaian journalist think that they are above the law or what. Forgetting your ID Card in the house is not an excuse for you to be allowed free access to the function. He was dam lucky that the soldiers did not massage his jaws for him, there he would have seen the difference. In any case they are looking for stories to sell to the populace so if they will not go for it FINE is up to them. One thing the journalist should not forget is that their counterparts from CNN, BBC etc are all over the world looking for stories to sell. If they choose to stay back and not to go for the stories it is up to them. After they will become redundant at the end of the day.
