The parents must reconsider their decision of stopping Saturday classes. Saturday Classes will help improve the children's Academic performance. The more learning and classroom interaction time available to students the better. School children in Japan and other Asian Countries outperform their counterparts in other countries because of their Saturday Classes policy.

Parents need children at home to help and learn to participate with the house work. This also is part of up bringing and to be come independent in once future for both boys and girls.

PARENTS NEED TO ENCOURAGE HARD WORKING KIDS RIGHT FROM INFANCY. LEAVING KIDS TO PLAY ARROUND CULTIVATES LAZINESS AND DO NOT BLAME THE KIDS LATER IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT.

It will be very nice if the education ministry will be up and doing. Some teachers organize extra classes for their own interest and not to improve academic performance. One will see students playing all day long, and then hold extra classes after school hours.Class one pupils are asked to stay for extra classes. The private schools are the most notorious operative of this extortion. The teachers deliberately set questions from the extra classes in their examinations just to wrongly justify their mischievous and wicked acts.Join me to raise this issue aloud and shame the extortionists.Of course there are good teachers among the masses but most of them have a way of making illegal extra incomes may be salaries of teachers in the private sector should be absorbed by the government. The FCUBE should make it lawful for government to do this.Every Ghanaian should be given equal opportunity to education.

Considering the investment we have made in education since independence Ghana should have been far advanced by now. It is high time we switched to effective and quality education. We cannot invest so many man hours and money on students only for them to score zero in BECE or SSCE. However we must not forget that if our educational system is good but our economy is bad we would just be exporting labor. A good economy is necessary for a good educational system and a good educational system is necessary for a good economy. Our educational system must be purpose oriented.

Letting your child go to a Saturday class is a question of choice. When such issues arise, people look at it from the point of the teacher making more money in extra time. They do not like it. To some people, it is a way of keeping their children safer when they left early mornings for funerals elsewhere. Many wished, school children never went on holidays. Some parents allow their wards to go to Saturday classes though they have 'home teachers' for them.
If you make sure the children study at home during the weekend, then why let them go to Saturday classes, take a decision now. We do not need the ministry to something we can take care of ourselves.

Madam Education Minister please do something to bring sanity. Worse things happen in private schools. Are these schools supervised at all? Can they charge parents anything they want? Most schools in Tema are involved. Save us !!!!

Saturday classes is a breeding ground for corruption and if government wants to tackle corruption from infancy, she must stop Saturday classes.
This is a place where all evil educational practices take place. It is a place for giving pupils leaked exam questions. It is a place where teachers extort monies from parents if they go broke.
Saturday classes is a recipe for a stressful society. All children who attend Saturday classes risk suffering from stress by age thirty. Children no more have rest. No more long vacation. It is work work work only to pass exams and remain unproductive. Children can no longer have time to play football or join parents to learn an alternative trade. The end result, leave school and cannot fit into any job. Ghana education service do something in the name of God to stop Saturday classes.

It's not about the number of days taught but the quality of the curriculum and teachers. I can assure you from my experience that a kid could be taught seven das straight but if the quality of the tutor and curriculum is below average, it will not make a difference. Why is that most Ghanaians never tackle the root of the problems and instead always make hasty decisions??

I think it must be a choice because some kids needs to be off the streets and Saturday classes, even though it lacks quality, helps keep kids off the street as well as early introduction of marketing by parents.

In my opinion, there's no problem with offering kids extra day of classes, if the academic standard for those kids are way below average. In USA, kids whose academic level is below their peers in class are given extra tutorials and time to catch up, while those who are very good are given advance class work to give them more challenge. The main idea is to bridge the gap between very poor academic levels and good levels, which is not a bad idea.
On the contrary, this important exercise needs to be done with much care, since if not well orchestrated, kids could take the opportunity of extra classes on Saturdays to go about their own business outside home which could lead them into troubles and also make their academic situation much worse. Thus, this Saturday classes should only be offered to kids with poor academic performances, and not every student. On the side of the coin, parents should be mindful of the fact that the more their kids study but not necessarily in the classroom, the better they will be academically.
Education is an expensive investment for our kids, and therefore we should not use their inability to do certain house chores to hold them back from getting my study times, especially when their academic levels are low. Let's give them the push to excel academically, then we can gradually guide them in getting better with house chores, because we can't eat our cake and still have it. Peace!!!

I believe our teachers are interested in the monitory aspect and not the interest of the child. they could do over the week what they want to do during weekends.
