the same corrupt incompetent people will buy their way to power and that will even be more serious because they cannot be easily removed.
what we need is accountability and transparency. our institutions charged with these responsibilities must be up and doing. we need to reduce human contact as much as possible with corruptible things. automate as much as possible.

I reserve the right as a citizen of Ghana to protect and defend my honour and integrity should this civilized challenge for the truth be ignored.
This is not the price I should be made to pay by the Government of Ghana for defending the Constitution of Ghana in the Waterville and Isofoton unconstitutional payments declared by the Supreme Court.

It is good to hate sin (corruption etc)but in your criticism examine your conscience is it out of selfishness. Is it ethnocentrism or tribalism is it just political strategy. God the final judge is watching us all. There is a thin line between being righteous and being rebellious, learn from David and how he reacted to Paul.

I think Ho. Philip Basoah and many other people in Ghana do not appreciate why it is important to appoint DCEs. As the last bastion of policy implementation, the DCE represents the President "on the ground" and ensures that policies are seen through. in a country like ours where we are more interested int the politics of issues rather than getting things done, a DCE that has sympathies towards the opposition might just refuse to cooperate with the sitting President just so that his government might be seen not to be performing. We in Ghana have still not grasped fully well the essence of democracy, so one of the guarantees against sabotaging the President is to ensure that those implementing his policies at the grassroots are epople who trust him and people he also trust. we have not yet reached a point where it is safe - either for the President or for the nation at large - to elect DCEs.

For many years, I wondered why Ghana's economy went into a tailspin after Ghana gained independence. Then I had a chance to observe how leadership in corporate entities is handled. Kwame Nkrumah had no choice but to appoint new graduates of our universities to be managing directors (MDs) as soon as they received their degrees. That practice still goes on today! For the most part, in the western capitalist economies which we emulate, a Managing Director or President or Chief Executive Officer of a corporation usually gets to that position after serving an apprenticeship. Indeed even in the western economies, the fact that a potential new leader does not have equity to loose in the corporation to which he is appointed an MD makes for a leader who usually does not care if the business looses money or not. You see, having a university degree does not necessarily mean being competent nor does it mean the new appointee has any interest in making the corporate which he has been appointed to lead is successful. The same is true of course for people who have no university degrees.
While this article deals with District Executives, which are governmental positions, the general concept still applies to the large number of corporate entities that a President of Ghana is responsible for staffing. Get a list of those appointments, and I will guarantee you the Presidential appointee is unfit to lead that organization. Anything from BOST to TOR to GNPC to --- you name it! That is one of the main reasons our economy has been such a mess!
