While the looting brigade continues to share the booty. And the POOR supporters keep cheering them up. While they are fed each day with Promises, Upon Promises, upon Promises. Oh my Brothers and Sisters, When will you become Wise and Vote these Thieves out of Power. Cant you see this Country Dying? Even Nunoo Mensah has Seen the country dying. God help Ghana !!!

I agree withe proposal. If ghana is to progress in infrastructure building in residential areas and local public schools and fire service provision this is the way. How ever how do you urge people to pay when there is no road to their homes, no gutters, or uncleared gutters. No street lights. There must be evidence of activity before collection. Good idea but the foundation must be laid.

Taxes and property rate shd be based on the value of the specific property including plots of land.I live in Greensboro,USA and one has to plan how to be paying taxes on a plot of land b4 buying it.In fact the cost determines the expected tax to be paying per year. The good thing is that they use the money so well ;good roads, beautiful lighting system,no light off for almost 4yrs now, taps running every day, covered gutters,no refuse on the streets ,Vehicles for every police officer with computers, snow clearing using salt and no dust cos every ground is green.Seriously ,if head porters ,taxi drivers and tro-tro drivers are paying dues/taxes daily or monthly then it is wickedness for the rich to be paying too low and be crying for good roads. In fact chiefs/land owners must also pay tax whenever they sell any piece of land ,and I propose 10% of the sale .Otumfuo ,please start this and instruct all yr sub-chiefs to start a special Kumasi development fund.

It's become customary these days for people of your caliber to "dream" and "throw out" incoherent and "populist" policies to curry favor with the public, whenever you are invited to give public speeches. You have been teaching Business Administration and didn't see the need for this proposal all these years? The keyword is "Management" of bublic assets, which should include enforcement mechanism etc. We have an institutional problem dating back to the Nkrumah administration. Most government ministers and the "elite" have not even been paying the existing 168 cedis on Government lands they dubiously acquired.

I am a Ga by tribe but I will say this.Perhaps the Ashanti king should take over the KMA but AMA being ran by the Ga king ???? Do you know that, for instance, Korle Gonno lands belong to the Korle Gonno people. They vested the lands in the chiefs as custodians, not as gifts. Now, do you know that for any plot of land sold in Korle Gonno, a part should go to the chiefs palace for upkeep of the chief, a part should go to the govt as taxes and a huge chunk should be for develoment projects in the area to benefit the people on whose behalf the land was sold ? presently, the chiefs spend all the monies on themselves and even sell the same land to more than one person ? Please , let the Ga king or Ga chiefs not run AMA. we will be doomed.

A very many thanks to the Prof. Adei. He is spot on. How could you pay a meagre GNC 180 on a $600,000 property as property rate? I live in London, my monthly rent is £600 and I pay in addition a council tax or a property rate of £150 every month. A conservative calculation would reveal that my council tax or property rate is about a quarter of my rent. Therefore, a property rate of $1,500 a year would not be considered prohibitive on a property worth $600,000 and over.
