“I am proud of President Mahama’s leadership and equally proud of Ablakwa’s bold representation of Ghana on the international stage,” the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has said.
In a Facebook post following the close of the United Nations General Assembly, the MP said he was encouraged by the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and the representation of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at major international engagements.
Agbana said Ghana’s participation in international engagements must go beyond diplomatic representation and translate into tangible opportunities for citizens, particularly in constituencies such as Ketu North.
He said the value of such engagements should ultimately be measured by what they deliver for the people, stressing that Ketu North had prepared to take advantage of opportunities arising from Ghana’s participation in the global forum.
According to him, with support from the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), his office developed an investment profile for Ketu North to highlight opportunities capable of attracting investors, creating jobs and unlocking the economic potential of the constituency.
Agbana said the investment profile proved useful during engagements in New York, where connections were established, conversations opened and potential opportunities identified.
He said the next step was to ensure that the engagements produced concrete outcomes for constituents.
“The work now is to move from conversation to commitment, from commitment to investment, and from investment to jobs and improved livelihoods for the people of Ketu North,” he said.
The MP said he returned from New York with renewed energy and determination to use every available platform and relationship to promote the development of the constituency.
“Ketu North must not be left behind in Ghana’s development story. We must position our constituency to attract investment, create opportunities and build a stronger local economy,” he stated.
Agbana also highlighted Ghana’s growing profile on the international stage, saying a final engagement with an American journalist had been particularly inspiring.
He said the journalist spoke about Ghana’s growing influence globally and the respect being attracted by President Mahama’s leadership.
The MP further pointed to Ghana’s position on global issues and President Mahama’s address to the UN General Assembly as evidence of the country’s increasing participation in important international discussions.
He also cited Ablakwa’s representation at the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and the historic Reparatory Justice vote at the UN in March as significant developments.
Agbana said the experiences and networks gained during the week had strengthened his resolve to convert international engagements into practical development opportunities for Ketu North.
