The general posture by most citizenry is education is a waste of time, not all of us can go to school. You can go and learn work, such attitudes ends them at the galamsey pits.

Schools in other regions, especially, Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Bono, Ahafo and Central Regions, do well not because they are better or work hard than those from the Volta, Oti and similar Regions. They do well because students, parents and teachers always engage in examination malpractices including examination paper leakages and cheating during examinations so everyone including the dumbs are all passing the WAEC exams. In the Volta Region, the few who pass do so by their own efforts. No one dare cheat or buy WAEC exam papers to perform better. One sees a Voltarian doing well, know that is true hard work.

This is the main reason the wholesale BECE placement into FSHS must be relook at. It is better to admit those who pass and gov't sponsoring the others to go into other things for a living than to waste state money on them only to record zero. Money wasted, and they can't progress too.
Few also go to SHS to transform their failure into success though but they are very few.

The poor performance at the WAEC level in the country in general and in the Volta Region in particular calls for a sober reflection. What are the reasons for so a poor performance in a season like this? One of the main reasons is the way and manner in which the Free SHS was introduced and administered. Students were admitted whole sale, and prevented from repeating even when their academic work was bad. Secondly too many students were admitted into schools with limited teaching and learning facilities. Perhaps the most devastating reason was the withdrawal of Ghana by the Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo government from the West African Examinations Council Examination for free SHS students in order to manipulate results in support of the free SHS. Now that the country has returned to the WAEC Examination, the true strength of our students among their West African peers has started showing. The GES has so much work to do. When seasoned educationists complained about the consequences of starting the free SHS without adequate preparation and withdrawal from WAEC, the NPP government trivialised it as politically motivated. Now the consequences of the ill-conceived and hurriedly implemented free SHS have caught up with us.
