The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region has elected a largely new leadership after incumbent executives suffered major defeats in the party's 2026 constituency executive elections held on Saturday, July 11.

The polls formed part of the NPP's nationwide constituency executive elections conducted across Ghana to elect officers who will steer the affairs of the party at the constituency level and spearhead reorganisation efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections. The exercise follows the party's internal electoral calendar aimed at restructuring its grassroots leadership after its defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

In Lower Manya Krobo, delegates voted overwhelmingly for change, replacing several incumbent executives in key positions, including Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Communications Officer, Women Organiser amongst others.

The keenly contested chairmanship race saw Fitzgerald Matey Korle defeat Asime Peter Padi by polling 529 votes against 482 votes, with eight rejected ballots with incumbent chairman, Emmanuel Siakwa trailing with 240 votes.

For the First Vice Chairman position, John Tetteh Atter secured overwhelming victory with 922 votes, defeating Batsa Archibald Narh who obtained 327 votes.

In the Second Vice Chairman contest, Richard Lawer Osanyongmor polled 587 votes to defeat Matey Juliana Mamle, who garnered 493 votes. A third Candidate, Djabanor Samuel Kweku, polled 178 votes.

The Secretary position also changed hands as Wilfred A. K. Zhando Tetteh won with 582 votes, beating the immediate past Secretary, Goldman Dodzi Awuku, who secured 511 votes, while Terkper Joseph Martey, who polled 160 votes.

For Deputy Secretary, Michael Korletey was elected with 782 votes, defeating Isaac Kweku Ayisah, who obtained 464 votes.

The Organiser position went to Emmanuel Angmorter Tetteh, who won with 792 votes, defeating the incumbent Mensah Michael, who obtained 463 votes.

In the Youth Organiser election, Daniel Narh narrowly defeated Kofi Nomo Isaac Tetteh, polling 450 votes against 429 votes.

For Women Organiser, Masudi Evelyn Wasila secured 663 votes to defeat Alorzukey Regina Sitso, who obtained 589 votes.

The Communications Officer position also saw a change in leadership, with Thompson Ayumu winning convincingly with 875 votes, defeating Ozor William, who garnered 377 votes.

In other contests, Kwesi Daniel Tetteh was elected Treasurer, defeating Boatey Sebastian Asare. For the Nasara Coordinator position, Isaka Sulemana emerged victorious over Abubakari Awudu.

Speaking after his victory, newly elected Constituency Chairman, Fitzgerald Matey Korle called for unity and restraint among party supporters, stressing that the election should not create divisions within the party.

He urged supporters to avoid triumphalism and instead focus on rebuilding the party.

"Today is not for jubilation. It is for planning and forging ahead. We should love one another, remain calm and stay focused. We must rebrand the party and move forward in unity," he said.

According to him, his campaign was centred on peace, togetherness and mutual respect, values he believes are essential to restoring the party's fortunes in the constituency.

He also emphasised the need to make young people feel valued within the party to attract more youth participation.

The newly elected executives assume office at a challenging period for the NPP in Lower Manya Krobo following the party's poor performance in the 2024 general elections, where it suffered heavy defeats in both the presidential and parliamentary contests.

Lower Manya Krobo has traditionally been a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with the party winning every presidential and parliamentary election in the constituency since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.

The new executive team faces the daunting task of rebuilding the party's grassroots structures, strengthening unity among members and positioning the NPP to become more competitive in the constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections.
