The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, says the top three candidates in Ghana’s 2025 WASSCE are all female, highlighting the value of investing in girls’ education.
“The top three performers in the 2025 WASSCE in the Republic of Ghana are all female. They are all girls,” he said.
He noted that the achievement should challenge lingering doubts about investing in the education of girls.
“So, let this be a wake-up call to those who still do not think it is a good investment, equally as we invest in our sons,” he added.
Dr Apaak explained that he had recently witnessed the accomplishment firsthand when he represented the education minister at the awards ceremony for the country’s best-performing candidates.
“Only a few days ago, I had the privilege of representing the minister at the WAEC awards for the best performing students across the country for the 2025 WASSCE,” he said.
The Deputy Education Minister made the remarks during activities marking the 70th anniversary celebration of Wesley Grammar School in Dansoman.
He also pointed to female leadership within the school as a further example of the impact of empowering girls through education.
“The presence of the females in the cadet course leadership and the fact that our head prefect is a female underscores the importance of the need for Ghana as a nation state and indeed parents to invest equally in the girl child,” he stated.
Wesley Grammar School is marking its 70th anniversary with a series of programmes from March 7 to March 15, 2026, under the theme “Reminiscing 70 years of holistic Methodist education: The role of stakeholders in embracing the new technology for the future.”
The celebration is intended to highlight the institution’s achievements over the past seven decades while also drawing attention to key development needs.
School authorities say priority projects include completing an ongoing 12-unit classroom block and constructing an assembly hall to enhance teaching and learning.
The anniversary programme is also focusing on the integration of digital technology in education, with stakeholders expected to support efforts aimed at preparing students for future academic and professional demands.
