Atta Akoto-Senior, the President of the Sunyani Youth Development Association (SYDA), says the association is undertaking a project to improve sanitation and waste management in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital.
Titled: “Litter-free street’, he said the project implementation was set to place litter bins at vantage points in the enclave of the Sunyani Central Business District (CBD) to collect plastic waste and to augment efforts by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly in keeping the city clean.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise carried out by the Association in Sunyani, Akoto-Senior said the project aligned with the nation’s efforts to achieve the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He said that: “Through the litter-free street initiative, we are supporting the nation to achieve the set targets for the global goals 6,11,12,15 and 17”.
Akoto-Senior explained that the Association picked inspiration from efforts being made by the authorities of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to always keep the city clean, and commended the leadership of Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive.
Earlier, the members of the association cleared choked gutters, picked plastic waste, and swept dirty surroundings in the clean-up exercise.
