Ghana Gas fetes over 1,000 children in catchment communities on Christmas Day

The Ghana National Gas Company has held maiden Christmas Children's party for over 1,000 children in the company's catchment communities.

The event took place at Atuabo where the gas processing plant is situated in Ellembelle district of the Western region and it was chaired by the President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council and Paramount Chief of Atuabo, Awulae Blay IX.

The beneficiary catchment communities included Atuabo, Asemda Suazo, Anokyi, Ngalekpole, Ngalekyi, Baku, Eikwe Ewe community, Sanzule, Krisan, Eikwe, Old Bakanta.

The highly elated and enthusiastic crowd was treated to food and drinks amidst outdoor games and dancing to foster unity and peaceful co-existence.

Special awards were presented to children who excelled well in the various outdoor games and dancing competition.

The children also received toys and other education related items to enhance their academic works and boost their morale for education.

The maiden event was held under the theme, "The Joy of Childhood".

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay, speaking at the colorful program, expressed joy at the massive turn out of the event which was very successful.

She said Christmas was a period for children as the Saviour Jesus Christ, came into the world as a child.

She, therefore said, there was the need to put smiles on the faces of children during this period.

She further pledged that the company would organise the party annually for the children in the company's catchment communities.

"Children are you happy, I can see that you are happy so in every Christmas we will organise Christmas party for you and this program has come to stay so clap for Ghana Gas", she stated.

She called on the children to take their academic works seriously and respect their parents and guardians.

She also promised to empower the school girls to become great engineers in order to work in the company in future.

Adjobah Blay urged parents in the communities to take proper care of their children.

"My beloved children, what I will tell you is that take your academic works seriously so that we can also help when the opportunity comes, respect and obey your parents, to the parents here, I will urge you to take good care of your children, help them to learn and study well", she said.

She challenged the girls among them to study maths, science and technology (ICT) in order for the company to empower them to become future engineers in the company.

"We will not only organise party on Christmas for you, we will also support you through healthcare and I want to challenge girls here to study maths science and technology, ICT and the company will support whoever is ready to study ICT, maths, science to become great engineers for the company and we will do to help our girls", she pledged.

Adjobah Blay who comes from Western region, seized the opportunity to thank President John Dramani Mahama for appointing her to be the CEO of Ghana National Gas Company and promised her total commitment to facelift the company.

"In fact, as a citizen of Western region, I'm very happy for this position and God bless President John Dramani Mahama for appointing me from Western region to steer the affairs of Ghana National Gas Company and as the first female CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, I will never disappoint President John Dramani Mahama and the good people of Western region, since I became the CEO we have done a lot of good works for our people, a lot of people have been employed and we will let Western region benefit from the company's CSR projects", she said.

She, further took the opportunity to call on the good people of the catchment communities and Western region as a whole to support the company to succeed.

The President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council Awulae Blay IX, commended Ghana National Gas Company for thinking about the children in their catchment communities.

Some of the children who spoke to Daniel Kaku at Atuabo Astro turf built by Ghana National Gas Company, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Ghana National Gas Company and and the CEO for thinking about them.

They described the event as unprecedented and appealed to the CEO to organise it yearly for them.

Abizi Morkeh who was part of the organising team stated that, "we planned to hold the party for 1,000 but at the end of the 2,000 children came and we were able to take proper care of them, every child that came was fed and received items and in fact, they were grateful for the event and appealed to the company to organise same event next year".
