Waste management experts, Zoomlion Ghana Limited joined the US Embassy, Australian High Commission, Nshorena, Environment360 and other stakeholders to clean the Sakumono Beach in commemoration of this year’s International Coastal Cleaning Day.

The exercise which is an initiative of Nshorena, a non-governmental organization whose core mandate is to promote cleanliness of our beaches brought together community members of Sakumono and its environs to help clean the beach.

The exercise witnessed staff of Zoomlion together with other participants busily sweeping, picking plastics amidst singing by the community members to boost morale and enable clean the 1.4 km stretch of the beach.

The Communications Officer of Zoomlion, Mr. James Deku who led the Zoomlion team to provide support for the clean-up exercise in an interview indicated that, the company as a power house for cleaning and managing waste is very keen on ensuring that the beaches which serves as tourist sites are always kept clean.

He said the company mobilized its workers and the needed logistics to partake in the exercise and also ensure that no debris of waste is left unattended.

He lamented at the rate at which people have turned the various beach site into dumping site and openly defecate there with impunity. “Let us all desist from these practices because it causes diseases outbreaks such as cholera and malaria that may lead to death” he added.

Mr. Deku appealed to the Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) whose jurisdiction cover the various beaches to consider the possibility of partnering Zoomlion to provide cleaning services to help avert the looming health threat this human activities, such as open defecation and dumping of waste poses to the community members.

The organizers of the event, Nshorena led by Kojo Akoto Boateng of Citi FM indicated that they are committed to ensuring that they clean the beaches on regular basis to ensure that it is kept tidy at all times.

He expressed his gratitude to Zoomlion and other stakeholders who have consistently support the project.
