There is currently a raging confusion between residents of Akuapem Gyankama Traditional Council in the Akuapem South District of the Eastern Region and the Methodist church over plans to change the name of the only basic school in the area.

Whereas the residents led by the traditional council want the school to remain as Gyankama Local Authority Primary and Junior High School (JHS), the church insists it should bear its name [Gyankama Methodist Primary and JHS] instead.

The traditional council has called on the district directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) according to Amankrado, Nana Osae Obotow II who spoke to Prince Narh of Koforidua-based Bryte Fm to intervene in the impasse.

According to him, the change of name of the school has led to misunderstanding between the community and the church as it has amounted to the poor state of the school for some time now.

He accused, the District Director of Education the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Member of Parliament for failing to respond to their cries despite several complaints.

“The Methodist church has refused to allow an NGO from the Netherlands to assist in renovating the school which is in a very bad state” He complained.

Nana Obotow II also complained the about the construction of the Accra – Aburi road which has led to the pollution of the only water source in the community making it difficult for residents to have access to potable water.

“We are appealing to government and other authorities to come help us with other sources of getting water for our livelihood” He appealed.
