Vodafone empowers 600 farmers on International Womens Day

Vodafone Ghana has empowered 600 farmers with feature phones to support their work on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which fell on March 8 this year.

The company also marked the day with a series of activities to highlight its commitment and dedication to empowering women in Ghana.

The day was also marked with an employee engagement session with top female Managers of the company and a mentoring session for 300 young girls at Christ the King hall.

Commenting on the celebration, Ashiokai Ashong, Human Resources Director at Vodafone Ghana said:

“Vodafone is delighted to join the world celebrate women on a day dedicated to this purpose. We recognise diversity as a key factor to the success of our operations and this is why we will continue to invest in women empowerment to promote equality across all spheres of life”.

The Vodafone Foundation has been supporting maternal health in Ghana since 2010. As part of the Vodafone Foundation’s Connecting for Good programme, it has partnered Divine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC) to bring relief to over 3000 distressed pregnant women through a free community ultrasound scan project. This project is designed to provide timely maternal health care solutions to deprived communities in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
