NADMO renovates schools, Police bungalows destroyed by downpour

The National Disaster Management Organisation has started renovating some school buildings destroyed by last week’s torrential rain within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis that resulted in the death of a 12-year old boy.

A 30-minute downpour on March 7 left several properties worth thousands of cedis, as well as the Effiakuma Police barracks were destroyed and rendered hundreds homeless.

At the Takoradi Market Circle, three people, including the 12-year old boy were electrocuted when electric cables were brought down by rains that caused flooding in the area and most part of the metropolis.

An assessment of the damaged caused by the downpour was done by the Western Regional NADMO office and submitted its report for the necessary action.

Metro NADMO Coordinator, Nana Billson, told Connect FM Tuesday that his outfit has started renovating schools and the Police bungalow that were affected, noting those are their “topmost priority”.

He said they have so far renovated the Aggrey School in Sekondi and are currently working on schools at Effiakuma after which they will move on to the Police bungalows.

Mr Bilson said NADMO is not working in isolation but rather “coordinating with other departments and agencies,” adding the renovation work is being carried out by the works department of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
