The Aggrieved Newly Posted Teachers group has announced plans to stage a demonstration on September 23, 2025, to protest delays in the payment of their salaries.
The group, made up of graduates from the Colleges of Education and universities, said some of its members have gone without pay for 12 months, while others have not received salaries for the past 8 months.
At a press briefing in Accra on Monday, September 8, 2025, the group’s Lead Convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and direct the Ministry of Finance to release funds for payment.
“We know that His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, the President of Ghana, is a listening president. We humbly call for his urgent intervention to ensure that the Ministry of Finance releases the necessary funds to pay our arrears and salaries without further delay,” he stated.
Colleges of Education Teachers call off strike
Describing the situation as ‘devastating’, the teachers said they are struggling to meet basic needs such as rent, food, medical expenses, and utility bills.
“Many of us can no longer pay our rent, which is overdue. We are unable to settle our utility bills, and even basic needs such as food and medical bills, which have resulted in some of our colleagues losing their lives in recent times,” they stated.
The teachers have consequently served notice that they would embark on a massive demonstration if their staff ID numbers were not issued and their salaries paid by the end of September.
“We are hereby giving notice that if by the end of September 2025, we are not issued our staff ID numbers, validated, and paid our salaries and arrears, we will stage a massive demonstration on the principal streets of Accra to register our displeasure and the hardship we are going through,” they said.
