A tragic accident at Kormantse, along the Cape Coast–Accra Highway in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, has claimed the lives of eight people.
The crash, which happened on Saturday, September 6, 2025, involved some five other passengers, including a child and the driver of a truck, who were badly injured but are receiving treatment at the hospital.

The crash, which occurred around 3:50 AM, involved a Mercedes-Benz with registration number AS 4146-25 and a Hino truck, GW 5958-25.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the Mercedes-Benz was travelling from Mankesim toward Cape Coast, while the Hino truck was headed in the opposite direction toward Accra.
Some passengers managed to escape the accident, while passers-by rescued others before emergency personnel arrived.
Fire service officers from the Mankessim Fire Station successfully removed two victims who were trapped and believed to have died instantly.
The injured were taken to the Saltpond Government Hospital for medical attention.
With support from other stakeholders, the accident scene was cleared to restore the smooth flow of traffic, according to some reports.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
