A pregnant asymptomatic coronavirus patient who doctors at a health facility had declined to come into contact with has delivered a healthy baby.

According to a report by the Daily Graphic newspaper, the woman had reported to the facility Friday, May 29, for her regular antenatal checks, however, two doctors and a number of nurses on duty abandoned her.

“It turned out that she was [contact-traced] to an earlier positive case, and the details of her condition were contained in her folder at the antenatal clinic without her knowledge,” according to the report published on the Daily Graphic website.

After about seven hours' wait, when other staff at the health facility had informed the Western Regional Heath Directorate of the woman’s condition, she received attention, according to the report.

She was subsequently transported to the Western Regional Referral Hospital, Effia-Nkwanta, where she delivered her baby over the weekend, the reported added.

The unnamed woman is currently being taken care of by a team of paediatric specialists who are guiding her to manage herself and the child.
