Military wants better relationship with media - Chief of Army Staff

Major General Richard Opoku-Adusei, Chief of Army Staff on Tuesday called for a better working relationship between the media and the military.

During his maiden familiarization visit to the 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho, Maj. Gen. Opoku-Adusei apologized for the widely reported military brutality which was meted out to some journalist during the 6th march parade.

He said: “We are sincerely sorry for what happened on March 6, this year and very prepared to cooperate well with the media.”

According to him, the military-media relation in the country was “super” until that incident and called for a new page of friendship adding that the military and media cannot afford to antagonize each other.

Maj. Gen. Opoku-Adusei, therefore, gave the assurance that the military will continue to work on its military-civil relations while measures are being put in place to eliminate or reduce indiscipline among all ranks.

The Commanding Officer of the Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel W. Abase Seidu on his part mentioned that the Regiment will continue to be friendly to the media and the public.

He, however, noted that the major problem facing the barracks was its poor sewerage systems and the ripping off of roofs of some residential apartments following a rainstorm recently.
