Man charged with threat granted 15 million cedis bail

Asamankese (E/R) Feb 21, GNA- Akakpo Keni, a former member of the Timber Task Force of the Birim North District Assembly has been granted a 15 million-cedi bail with two sureties to be justified by the Asamankese Circuit Court.

He would however report once a week to the Ofoase Police. Keni was remanded in prison custody when he made his first appearance on February 4, on a three-count charge of threat of harm, resisting lawful arrest and assault of Public Officer.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on March 10. Police Inspector Osei Nimoh, prosecuting described Keni as an unemployed and that on January 21 at about 1000 hours, Keni went to the District Assembly to demand debt which he alleged the assembly owed him. Mr Ibrahim Tijani the District Co-coordinating Director asked him to go and come later as the District Chief Executive was not around. But the accused did not take kindly to that and warned the Assembly staff that they should be ready for confrontation and went back home. Keni, armed with a cutlass went back to the assembly around 11.30 a.m. and threatened to slash anyone who dared to face him. He then locked the main door and took the key away.

A report was made to the police who went to arrest him but he violently resisted arrest during which he assaulted Constable Frank Tetteh
