District Directorate to halt mass promotion of students

Manso (B/A) Feb 21, GNA- The Nkoranza District Education Directorate in Brong-Ahafo has expressed its determination to halt the mass promotion of students.

The practice has inadvertently affected the performance record of schools in the district, Mr. Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, district director announced at Manso, near Nkoranza.

He was addressing the staff and students of the local Junior Secondary School on Friday during a visit.

Mr. Agyeman-Badu said the wholesale promotion did not allow the students and school children to be serious with their studies "as both the brilliant and the weak enjoy promotion every year". He advised all students to take their education seriously or they should be ready to repeat if they failed in examinations. Mr. Agyeman-Badu cautioned the students against absenteeism and truancy, emphasizing that the directorate would not countenance such acts of indiscipline.

He warned JSS Three students who refused to attend classes after being registered for the BECE that they would also be stopped from taking the examination to avoid poor performance. affecting the records of their schools.

He expressed appreciation for the decision by a 20 year-old mother to go back to school to continue with her education. Miss Elizabeth Kodue is currently a Form Two student of Manso JSS and is competing favourably with her classmates in all school activities.
