Kofi Dzamesi elected Ketu-North NPP candidate by acclamation

Dzodze, Mar. 2, GNA - Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, has been elected as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Ketu-North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by popular acclamation to contest this year's general elections.

The large number of party supporters at the constituency congress at Dzodze on Sunday burst into cheers when the District Electoral Official who supervised proceedings declared him duly elected.

Present at the function were Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Regional Minister, Mr Tommy Amematekpor, Presidential Aide, District Chief Executives, National, Regional and constituency party executives.

Mr Dzamesi, who declared his ambition for the seat soon after being appointed Deputy Regional Minister, drew large followers, particularly from Afife, Ehie, Penyi, Wheta and Dzodze.

The NPP polled 2,802 votes to lose the seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which had 16,252 in the 2000 elections. Mr Dzamesi expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the party and members in the region and the constituency for the support and confidence reposed in him.

He promised to cooperate with the 42-member campaign team to win the seat and to work hard to ensure the development of the communities. Major Quashigah expressed his appreciation for the support base of the NPP in the constituency, saying, "democracy is taking a firm root in this area contrary to what we experienced in the past".

He said the Dzodze Oil Palm and the Anlo-Afiadenyigba Piggery Projects were being executed, adding that, the government would accelerate development in all parts of the country.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa said the NPP was attracting support in the region as a result of the government's good work.

Women's wings of the party were inaugurated for various communities in the constituency.
