Saint John's School celebrates Founders' Day

Sekondi, Mar 2, GNA - The Reverend Brother Joseph Annan, Headmaster of Saint John's Secondary School in Sekondi, has called on students to be disciplined and to avoid bad social habits such as drunkenness to regain the image of their institutions. He was speaking on Sunday at the School's first Founders' Day celebration on the theme, "Saint John's After 50 Years; the Second Journey of Growth".

Brother Annan called on the students to resolve never to return to the "Dark Days" when the school was associated with indiscipline. He said the celebration would be an annual affair and expressed the hope that it would help in the efforts to revive the declining fortunes of the "once great school to regain its image as the beacon of light in the Western region".

The Headmaster said the theme for the celebration should also remind the students of the school's achievements since it was founded in 1952 and called on former students, parents and the public to participate in the school's activities.

He paid tribute to the Founding Fathers including the first Headmaster, Professor F. K. Buah and reminded former students, "Old Saints" of their responsibilities to their Alma Mater.

Brother Annan announced that two Old Saints would be honoured every year in recognition of their achievements in their fields of endeavour at the celebration to make them role models for the students. He appealed to former students of the various year groups and chapters to sponsor the occasion annually.

Professor James Hawkins Ephraim, Head of the Chemistry Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and an Old Saint, attributed success to discipline and the fear of God and asked the students to be hardworking.
