KMA bans individuals and association from building on its lands

Kumasi, July 23, GNA- Individuals and associations will no longer be allowed to develop land belonging to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) or those vested in it by the state without formal lease or agreement. The KMA is also taking steps to take control and management of structures and stores constructed on such lands by individuals and associations as part of measures to prevent indiscriminate development and appropriation of the lands by individuals.
Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, KMA Chief Executive, announced this when the executive of the Kumasi Traditional Caterers Association called on him at his office in Kumasi. The meeting was for the executive to enquire about the suspension of work on a piece of land that was being developed at the Kejetia terminal for members of the association. Mr Jumah said there were a lot of structures including stores that had been built on KMA lands without documents to indicate the conditions and obligations of the developer to the KMA.
"No association or developer would be allowed to build on such lands without the expressed approval of the assembly, the government or the Manhyia Palace so the public is cautioned to cross check before payment of any money to developers of such lands." Mr Jumah gave the assurance that the interest of members of the association would be considered when the development of the land in question was finally effected. Nana Ama Serwaa, National President of the Association, thanked the MCE for giving them audience and hoped members would be offered priority when the project was completed.
