Ghanaians have been called upon to actively participate in the National Sanitation Day exercise, with emphasis on proper waste disposal, desilting drains, and maintaining clean environments.
Speaking during the nationwide clean-up on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Ernest Kusi, Director of Monitoring and Service Quality at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, stressed that sanitation is not just about a one-day event, but a lifestyle change essential to achieving the President’s Clean Ghana Agenda.
“Sanitation is about behavioural change. If people adjust their attitudes toward littering, it will make a huge difference. We run the Zoom Kids Programme in schools across the country, forming clubs to instill proper sanitation habits from an early age. This ensures that young people grow up with positive attitudes toward cleanliness,” he explained.
He also highlighted the role of municipal assemblies in enforcing sanitation laws.
“Together with education and enforcement, we believe we can achieve lasting change,” Kusi said. He appealed to households to store waste properly, use bins, and call on authorities to provide bins at subsidised costs where necessary.
“Negative attitudes such as indiscriminate littering harm everyone. The waste we throw away pollutes the environment and brings diseases back to us. Let us all change our lifestyle toward the environment so that together we can enjoy the clean Ghana we desire,” he added.
The National Sanitation Day, officially reintroduced by President John Dramani Mahama on September 6, 2025, at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), Ogbojo–Madina, aims to unite Ghanaians in keeping the nation clean.
Zoomlion Ghana Limited has affirmed its commitment to supporting the exercise, providing logistics, equipment, and manpower across all sixteen regions.
According to Kusi, the company supplied brooms, gloves, nose masks, compaction and skip trucks, and mechanized support for clean-up operations.
“Zoomlion is committed to supporting all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies nationwide. As a leader in sanitation, we cannot sit idle — we must actively participate,” he said, noting that the company’s staff are on the ground sweeping, desilting drains, and weeding in designated areas.
