Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira PM begs Akufo-Addo against sacking DCE

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

A presiding Member at the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District, John Anokye, has pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ignore calls for the dismissal of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Emmanuel Kojo Nanah.

According to him, some faceless people who, for some strange reasons, are unhappy with the good work being done in the district, are those calling for the removal of Mr Nanah.

According to some assembly members, Mr Nanah has been unwell, thereby causing a vacuum in the district.

They claim the poor health condition of the DCE has made it impossible for him to work, thereby creating a lot of challenges, including financial malfeasance and indiscipline among staff of the assembly.

“The worrying situation is that the Assembly awards contracts to themselves, specifically to the District Engineer in the name of the Assembly’s Works Department,” the assembly members said in a petition they sent to the Central Regional Minister.

However, in a statement signed by Mr Anokye, he said: “It is unfortunate that some faceless people are bringing our young district into the limelight in a negative manner. I am not sure of the status of the statement that has been put up as to whether it is a petition or a mere expression of some people outside the Assembly.

“I don't believe that any of the 24 members of the Assembly could be part of such machinations. I say this because our Assembly is a 'House of Records' and if my memory serves me right, there can be no record of the Assembly taking such a decision.

“I, therefore, appeal to the general public to treat this message as the handiwork of people who do not have the District at heart and must be treated with utmost contempt.”

He subsequently told Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM Monday, 13 August that: “The DCE is now well and he has resumed work.”

Meanwhile, Listowel Antwi Nkrumah, Assembly Member for Tweapease Electoral area, told Forson that the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who is also the Member of Parliament for Heman Lower Denkyira, Bright Wireko Brobbey, should be blamed for the actions of the faceless group that is seeking the removal of the DCE.

“Hon. Wireko Brobbey had his preferred candidate for the DCE position, so, ever since the president nominated Hon Nanah, the MP has shown his hatred for him and frustrated him in every step of the way.”

He further alleged that: “During the confirmation, the MP paid losing bonus of GHS1,500 to some of the assembly members to vote against Hon. Nanah, yet Hon. Nanah managed to get the required two-thirds majority to be confirmed.”
