We witness how thew Mahama family now have control of all natural resources including reserves of Bauxite and iron ore so frustrated and sabotaged every effort at industrialization and construction of railway networks as they did not want the people to get wealthy by adding value and exporting . Its easier to manipulate ignorant illiterate impoverished people. All the efforts and focus was to elect JD Mahama for another 4 year term. The Parliamentary election was assumed to be guaranteed. So the grassroots were assumed to be there to vote for the NDC party. A grave and fallacious assumption ! That was why Sid Abubakar's role was not factored in. Personality wise he was not a firebrand like the rest either. But is he not supposed to be a member of the Party Secretariat?. John Dumelo replaced Abubakar as the face of the Youth wing?
Mahama took the NDC grassroots like "snails "as Akans say , because they won't go far, meaning for granted. Or as my cynical brother says Mahama and his strategists assumed the Ghanaian voters are like ihis girlfriends or lovers. They can be bought. Thus, they assumed spending a lot of money buying chiefs and key opinion leaders with V8s and money, and with Lordina on a Crusader of Goodies distributions would translate to votes in the Akan majority areas. Unfortunately they have been disappointed !!
. The grassroots who are blaming Sid Abubakar, the NDC Youth Orginizer , misses the real problem. The party strategists and Mahama assumed the massive infrastructure build up and vote buying would translate into massive electoral victories. They did not !!!
The Akan majority wanted Change. And as the results showed in the Central region where despite there being Mills and Amissah Arthur home turf, NDC could muster only 4 parliamentary seats out of 23.
Finally, after the antics of head fakes in coming out with manifestos , the electorate believed the NPP promises were the most socially and democratically transformative.

Many Ghanaians died prematurely because they could not afford basic necessities of life such as good health, food and housing whereas government officials were driving posch cars i.e. V8 SUV, Tundra and Landcruisers. As the youth organizer, your major strength should be your voice and your ability to mobilize the youth, who are the most cherished assets of any party, to whip up sentiment against selfish party leaders who you think are stifling you of resources to do your work. You neglected your own resources and logistics- the youth, who party leaders fear for their fluidity of moving from one party to another if they are aggrieved. You may not have another opportunity as youth leader again, but if you do have, use the youth against any cabal you suspect of making your work difficult. A word to a wise is from the wise.
