Akuffo Ado is failing from the onset. If he really believes in decentralization, then the best way go is allow every region to elect its leader. In addition, every city must have an elected mayor. Why is the mayor of Accra not elected by the residents of Accra. There is absolutely no reason why the mayor is appointed by the president. Decentralization means that the elected leaders must be given the power of taxation, so that they will use the funds to fix their roads and other social amenities. Why are we so Stupid? Rawlings bragged about grass root democracy--in referencing to the district assembly election. But the whole concept was a hoax, how can you have a grass root democracy when the person at the top could not be changed. The district assembly did not have an autonomous power to collect taxes and use the money to develop the area.

Separating the Guan and Akan both of the Volta region is an attempt to heed to ethnic pressures. The whole Volta Region is under developed . How can you develop it by dividing it into two poor regions ?

We Gonjas will fight tooth and nail to make sure that never happen. Not even a minute fraction of our land will be added to this that so called eastern corridor region. Yes, it is true our own man, JDM was a disappointment, a disgrace but that does not mean Nana should also come and add insult into injury. For those who don't know, Gonjaland constitutes at least 1/3 of the whole land masse of the Northern rRegion. The two main and dominant tribes in this region are the Gonjas and the Dagombas. The latter already have Tamale, their town as the capital, who for God's think we Gonjas will sit down again and allow them have Yendi, their town again as the capital of the new region? Nana, is it pay back time? That will never happen. NEVER!

In the case of BA, what is the motivation to create Ahafo region out of BA, effectively creating two distinct ethnic groups? Have the people in BA told you the NPP they want to exist as Ahafo and Bono people?
NPP would do well to concentrate on how well it can achieve results under its main thematic areas of I. Political decentralization II. Local gov't service and capacity building III. Fiscal decentralization and IV. Sanitation management.
Efficiency and effectiveness does not necessarily evolve from creating more regions or separating ethnic groups, no. The actual causes must be intelligently ascertained and addressed.

Yes, it is true our own man, JDM was a disappointment, a disgrace but that does not mean Nana should also come and add insult into injury. For those who don't know, Gonjaland constitutes at least 1/3 of the whole land masse of the Northern rRegion. The two main and dominant tribes in this region are the Gonjas and the Dagombas. The latter already have Tamale, their town as the capital, who for God's think we Gonjas will sit down again and allow them have Yendi, their town again as the capital of the new region? Nana, is it pay back time? That will never happen. NEVER. Savanna region with the capital at Bole, Damongo, Buipe or Salaga or just leave the region as it is now

This is a new dispensation and you better get on with it. At the end of the day Ghanaians will have a chance to in four to tell Nana what they think about him.
If I have my way there would be no regions in Ghana. Rather every district would be a region supervised by the ministry of local government. All the current regional capitals would then become metropolitan assemblies.
We often cry for jobs in Ghana, but when government are creating jobs we cry. Just for political reasons. If I were a young graduate in Ghana I will start today planning on how I can get a job in one of the new regional administrations. Then there will be the regional hospitals etc. that would bring development a lot more closer to people who currently travels miles to assess such facilities.

The new Regions Ghana's new President wants to create seem to be a deliberate attempt to separate sub-tribal groups from one another.
It may have the unintended consequence of devaluing diversification, and encouraging a few others to claim natural resources in their areas only to themselves.
As much as I advocate decentralization, this, largely unnecessary dismembering of the Regions is not exactly what we need to ensure that.
Folks must carefully and seriously search for the real motives behind this creation of new Regions. Too many tiny Regions could bloat bureaucracy. And unless much decentralization and greater autonomy is given these new Regions to generate and spend their own funds for various projects, their burdens would further weigh down the Central Government.
We cannot deal with too many local tin-gods who defy principles of even distribution of national assets across the country but disallow thorough and meticulous auditing.

Otherwise, why not curve Regions out of Ashanti and Eastern. For starters, Ashanti region is the most populated in the whole country, according to our voter registration. So Ashanti should be the first region to be split. Follow that up with the Eastern region, then the Northern region before thinking of smaller regions such as the Central, Western or the Volta region.Ghanaians are not fools. These days, throwing of dust in the eyes of Ghanaians will not work.
