You can't dodge the bullet forever. You have to prevent it. You prevent it by having transparent elections. You can dismiss the talk about rigged electoral process. But remeber that perception of electoral impropriety alone could trigger mayhem. Ghana does not need a peace walk. Ghana does not need a peace council. In Israel, which was formed in 1947, there has never been any hint of electoral malpractice. India, a country that came into being in 1947, with more than 1.2 billion population has almost always fair elections. South Korea's electoral process is always smooth with the loosing party always accepting the result with grace and magnanimity. In Ghana, since 1992, every election has resulted in accusation and counter accusation of fraud. What the fuck is going on? Granted that we were colonized, are we the lowest of the low of the human race?
Some Ghanaians pride themselves of being citizens of a peaceful African country. Rest assured that that peace is fragile and not rooted in reality. We are only one election cycle away from a bloody civil war. Last time, the opposition sought refuge in the court system. The Supreme Court indirectly ruled that whatever the electoral commissioner says is final. Not withstanding the verdict, the Supreme Court could have ordered the electoral commission to streamline its operations. But all the justices are Ghanaians. They are a product of their culture. So what do you expect?

Osagyefo himself said, and Kwesi gleefully quote that saying as reflexive of the truth, that when legitimate means of changing a government becomes impossible, then violence breaks out naturally. Did Osagyefo also subscribe to an"all die be die mantra"?
And if so, what makes his espousal of that mantra acceptable in his day, and what makes it unacceptable today?
A principle, no matter how it is worded, must be timeless in its application. Some objectivity and honesty is needed in our national discourse.

In war it is easy to destroy but to rebuild such damages normally run into millions of dollars. I don’t want any violence in this country” says the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt.
Kwesi Pratt was speaking to a comment made by the acting National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay.
Freddie Blay in an interview with Kumasi-based Ultimate FM said: “I cannot guarantee what will happen, the party cannot guarantee, we the executives, we who are at the top, the Presidential candidate cannot guarantee, if the ordinary people get angry, God forbid if they decide that they won’t agree to what is happening, and some people take the law into their own hands, what can we do?… Don’t rule out things could generate into something that we all don’t want.”
Kwesi Pratt however disagrees with the NPP kingpin.
He said during a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji that nobody wants violence in this country; hence the NPP must avoid making comments that might incite people to act violently.
“I insist on the right thing being done and we should continue to use the appropriate channel to make sure that the right things are done. Anybody who comes out and says that if so and so were to happen in this elections we cannot guarantee peace, is not saying anything which is substantially different from all-die-be-die; It is the same thing. I have read commentary by leading members of the party who are calculating the damage that this all-die-be-die comment did to them in the last election- I’ve read Arthur Kennedy and co. So you needed to have learnt important lessons from the verbal slippages that occurred in last elections, but now it is getting worse…
