How many of NPP'S policies and plans have they tried to steal only to fumble and made mess with due to their lack of knowhow. Why does this Anyidoho keep embarrassing himself with baseless utterances? Politics is a dirty game they say but for anybody to state that Nana Akufo Addo Danquah or NPP has no message is laughable and stupidity to the highest degree.

This is fine Ghanaian lady who thinks only about the past. Private ownership of utilities is here to stay. You see, governments can't afford to build power plants and subsidize the running cost and power to the consumer. The recent power shortages in Ghana are a solid evidence of lack of investment in the sector, antiquated equipment, poor maintenance and under priced power to the consumer. The only way government can address that short fall will be to raise taxes and charges to pay for the needed investments to meet higher demand. The story in Ghana is the same as everywhere, power generation is a very costly venture. Government subsidies that we demand are no different to inflation, they act like the invisible bandits that robs you without even seeing it, unfortunately the poor suffers the most in any heavily subsidized economy as more critical parts of the economy that will benefits the poor in the long term are starved for resources.Governments must use our money more wisely, not throwing them at badly thought political decisions.

May be 2 or 3 from the over hundred that were set up by Nkrumah. The state owned enterprises have largely failed. ECG even is not a total privatisation as such. It is a means of making it a better organisation to give us all better services. The govt owes us all a duty to publicise extensively what the exercise entails so that Lucy and the others can appreciate what good it will bring us all.

Mabel, in theory you are correct about the benefits of privatisation. However, in practice these benefits rarely occur. Whichever private contractor takes over the management of ECG, will look to recoup their investment costs as soon as possible. This usually means a reduced workforce and increased consumer bills. All private firms operate to make a profit and that will be the sole aim of whoever takes over from ECG. Those like yourself who are advocating for privatisation should provide us with examples where privatisation of State Assets has benefited consumers. State Assets in the former Soviet Union were privatised and led to the creation of
Billionaires such as Roman Ambramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club. Former State Assets in Britain such as British Gas, British Rail and British Telecom have been privatised and the result has been poorer consumer services and higher consumer costs. Which begs the question does privatisation actually work? I have yet to see any examples where it has worked.

It is true that private contractors who comes in to rescue any non-performed business comes in with the objectivity to make profits. They don't come in with empty hands but rather hard earned capital from other source. If you are to be in their shoes, I believe you will act the same way. Privatization brings efficiency and consumers have right to choose their service providers and also can sue their providers for failing to deliver or any other wrong doing.
Let me give you an example of the defunct Bibiani Wood and Metal Complex which was established in the mid-70's by Mr. L. A. Quarshie when the then Bibiani Gold Mines was under-performed and was sold by late Kutu Acheampong's administration.
This Wood and Metal Complex was going on successfully until Chairman Rawlings came in with his biased thinking about rich people and seized the company in the late '80's and brought in administrators of Gas and Ewe's origin who did not have any insight of this business. Guess what happened - the company vanished in the thin air within 2 or 3 years of its seizure. The seizure did not dampen the spirit of Mr. Quarshie but he gathered his entire senior staff and moved them to Ivory Coast and established a similar company there. Mr. L.A. Quarshie was in arrangement with Polish Entrepreneurs planning to come and built car assembly plant at Bibiani but for one person and his gang of fools who stood against the worthy of some individuals, this huge project failed to materialize.
The country is ripe to have all its non-performing government enterprises change hands to private individuals. I am prepared to invest in these ventures when the get privatized.
