The Electoral Commission's independence is actually being used as an excuse for doing exactly what the framers of the constitution wanted to prevent.
The framers were aware that government of the day could abuse its incumbency to interfere in electoral matters to make it easier for it to rig elections. As a result, they made the EC independent in order to prevent the government from doing so.
What is happening in Ghana today is the opposite. The NDC government is intimately in bed with the EC and the so-called "independence" is being used against all the other stakeholders in favour of the incumbent. Do we need another 100 years to be able to rule ourselves as Donald Trump said? What a shame!

Instead of addressing the issue of why the EC should form a committee to supervise elections at the blind side of all the other stake holders except NDC, and pick all its members from die hard supporters of the NDC party, the "Kotokoli House Boy" is rather trying to pick up a fight with NPP for exposing the fraud and strengthening democracy in Ghana.
That Alata lady can never exonerate herself from any wrong doing anywhere in this world legally and ethically because; she is supposed to be an honest "referee" between all the political players. Moreover, apart from being bias against the other stake holders, which is a reason enough to send her packing; she also contravened the constitution by being a board member of another company.

The EC had mentioned dates on which correspondence was exchanged. Rev Asante has to refute that. EC is saying, they did not appoint anyone, rather the institutions were approached and requested to nominate someone to represent them on the Committee. Question to ask is: 'Is the person nominated to represent the Peace Council a member of the Peace Council?' It's rather the Rev Minister who is lying. We all know his political affiliation.

The good old professor could even have contacted the nominee from the PeaceCouncil for more information. The EC could also do us a good if the letter is published in the media for all of us to read. The Ec should stop lying.The Ec wrote directly to the NDC members in the various places of their work with the real addresses of their actual work places but on the envelopes addressed the letters to them as personal letters.That is the reason why for example, the chairman of the peace council did not see that letter purported to have been written to the peace council.Now if we request for the said letters and the original envelopes, they will quickly address the envelopes to match.Some people at the EC are masters in this type of criminal, dubious and fraudulent character and behaviour.A word to the wise.....

These members are not returning officers, presiding officers or party agents so what at all will they influence? They are only there to educate their outfit and advance their concerns.
IEA and NPP talks about EC not doing enough to educate the electorates but when the initiative is being put in place the same people condemn it. Why! Because of an old unattractive (to voters) man being a flag bearer?
