"In conclusion, the President’s power to appoint the Chairman and Members of the EC is merely a ministerial one. The substantive power of appointment is assigned to the Council of State. The President shall act on the advice of the Council of State means the President is barred from the nomination, vetting and selection process. Those who framed the Constitution were keenly aware of the impropriety inherent in allowing the President, a political player, to play a critical role in selecting the political referee. Nevertheless, out of deference for the office of the President, the framers allowed him, as the Chief Executive Officer, the honour of “appointing” the candidate selected by the Council of State. In this case, all the President is required to do is to issue the appointment letter under the Presidential seal but no more. "
Fighting for change can be a lonesome experience, yes, when all some want is power at all cost. But there are believers out there looking for leadership. Change will come.

In his early years, Rawlings unleashed a political terror on Ghana. His campaign against the middle classes resembled Mao's Cultural Revolution. People were persecuted for having savings or two indoor lavatories. Market women were sometimes killed for 'profiteering'."

There is no any amount of electoral reforms which can enhance the electoral fortune of Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom's Progressive People's Party.
They better keep quiet and stop disturbing our ears. There is no electoral system anywhere in the world without some lapses, for we must know that no human institution is perfect.

Nicholas, you still don't get it. Yes, no human institution is perfect but should we display a contented smile and continue with mediocrity when we recognize shortcomings that can be easily corrected with a little bit of effort? We are progressing and inching up the perfection ladder if we are recognizing what we do imperfectly and making necessary changes. Your call to let sleeping dogs lie is not only laughable but a worrisome recipe for disaster. Disaster should never be self inflicted or self imposed because its managenent is costly and painful and must never be considered as an option in any circumstance. The objective of the electoral reforms is to level the electoral playing field. When that objective is achieved there'd be no need for anyone to doubt the integrity and sincerity of the electoral process and it'd be easier for losers to concede defeat. Those who're crying for common sense reforms in the electoral system and process are the voices of reason and wisdom and those shouting themselves hoarse to muffle those voices are the purveyors of anarchy and civil strife. They are those who can't win fairly when the process is fair and conjure shenanigans to gain undue advantage. I believe Nicholas belongs to this group.
