You have to appreciate the levels of poverty in the Country to stop making empty and silly
suggestions! Do know that a lot of people with very good grades, opted to go to the Training College because of poverty, and therefore, the Consideration of the allowance?
Even the advance Countries they help trainees in those Categories.
And I find your suggestions of all Institutions under the Ministry of Education as a Comedy Central Jokes. Are you serious !
Why do the power's that be is making life extremely difficult for the poor, weak and vulnerable Ghanaian. All over the world, those who strive to lead their people, with exception of some African Countries do so to help ease the suffering of their peoples

I strongly disagree with the policy. A Recent Research showed that almost 80% of basic school teachers are unqualified. I believe that as a country we should be looking at ways to improve the quality of teachers we produce. I was at a graduation of basic school teachers in the country recently and i was shocked to find out that none of the teachers that graduated had first class, with very few obtaining second class upper. If our teachers are not getting what they are being taught, how can they teach? We should be very concerned about what they are going to put in the heads of our young ones. I am of the vie that we should raise the bar.
How do we do this? Is it by raising the entry requirement to teacher trainee schools, or is it by raising the exit requirement? Either way, what is evident is that the teaching profession, basic school especially, is not a very popular career choice for many people. Why is this the case? Is it that the reward and incentive package is so low that only a certain segment of students opt to be teachers? Or is it that the trainee school has become a last resort to people after they have been unable to make it into any other tertiary institution?
Whatever be the case, i believe that to successfully increase the quality of teachers we must be able to require more of the graduation requirement from our graduating teachers and also find ways to make the teaching profession more attractive for more people to enter to raise the bar.
IN view of this, scrapping the allowance is not a way to go. We will rather be reducing the standard.
