Very laudable indeed, this can help stop self imposed high duties by customs officials on items they have eyes on just to go through backdoor and acquire them for themselves.A qouta of the cars should be given to the police to make them mobile to fight crime. Policing is not an office job but because of lack of logistics one have to walk to the station to lodge complaint instead of calling 911 for them to rush there in minutes

It is sad that when those of us who are in overseas toil and ship our vehicles to Ghana, the authorities jack up the excise duty so high that we end up abandoning the vehicle at the port and the government officials turn around in a special auctions skewed in their favor end up buying those vehicles even below the duty that was being charged at the port. When you the owner wants to buy it, they refused to sell it to you.
How can the government ask us to come home and settle and help build a better Ghana after this treatment?

WHEN SUCH IMPORTERS THINGS ARE IMPOUNDED the best practise is to move them from the hands of the custom to a different body under a strict supervision to do the auctions.
all the customs should do is to taking entries with moderate pricing tags and send it to auditor general created body also to different region for auditing after recieving reciept of sales.
such a process and procedure would help as a watch dog for all the three bodies in this process
EG
AUCTION CENTER - KUMASI
ENTRIES & PRICE tag MODERATING CENTER-
northern
center for auction sales reciept -
VOLTAL REGION
AUDITHUR GENERAL center - ACCRA
supervising the overall sales and payment at bank of ghana

This can never be true. it is rather ndc foot soldiers at the castle who come to auctions with letters from the castle and collect as many vehicles as possible and sell after they the foot soldiers have added their useless abnormal profits to the reserve price of the item involve.
The chief of staff must allow the CEPS division of the GRA to perform its mandated function since too much interferance in the functions of the CEPS is inimical to revenue mobilization at this time when the ndc needs money to pay useless ex-gratia and use the left over to settle knowledgeable professionals like doctors, pharmacist , teachers etc.
Auctions are a core function of the CEPS so chief of staff hands off.
Foot soldiers cant be customs officers.
