Former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Hamidu Akamba, has expressed disappointment over how quickly Apostle Lilian Owusu, ex-wife of the late former Deputy Finance Minister Dr John Kumah, remarried following the death of her husband.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM on September 17, 2026, Joshua Hamidu Akamba said he had seen first-hand the love shared between the late John Kumah and his wife, which he greatly admired.

According to him, the relationship between the couple would have served as an inspiration to him if he had decided to get married.

However, Akamba said his perception of marriage changed after John Kumah’s death and his wife subsequently remarried.

“I was disappointed in John Kumah’s wife when she remarried immediately after her husband’s death. I was really disappointed because the love I saw between the two of them was something I admired so much. I would have taken John Kumah and his wife as motivation for my own marriage, but what happened after his death changed my mind,” Akamba said.

The former NDC National Organiser said the development has made him hesitant about considering marriage, explaining that he now fears that if he were to marry and die, his wife could also move on quickly and marry another person.

“I began thinking that if I get married and die, my wife could also move on and marry someone else immediately. Because of that, I don’t even want to get married anymore,” he added.

Dr John Kumah, who served as the Member of Parliament for Ejisu and a former Deputy Finance Minister, died on March 7, 2024, at the age of 45.

He was widely recognised for his involvement in public service and economic development, as well as his connection with constituents in Ejisu.

His widow, Apostle Lilian Owusu, Founder and Senior Pastor of Disciples of Christ Ministries Worldwide, remarried Samuel Aryeequaye in December 2025, approximately 18 months after the death of John Kumah.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service at her church on December 21, 2025, Lilian Owusu explained the circumstances surrounding her decision to remarry, saying it was a carefully considered step rooted in faith, love and personal conviction.

According to her, the decision was not influenced by public pressure but rather by her personal resolve to move forward with her life instead of dwelling on the past.

She also described her new marriage as a relationship founded on love and prayer, insisting that she did not enter into the marriage lightly.

“They came for business alliance and it was love at first sight, as soon as he saw me, he pursued and fortunately, it was just within the time I was ready. We have been praying and God, and God those answers prayers, has given us a calm man and he is not a replacement, nobody has said we have gotten a replacement,” she explained.
