Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a candidate in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional executive elections, has expressed confidence in securing between 62% and 65% of the votes in the chairmanship contest.

Speaking to journalists on August 15, 2026, Kokofu said he was optimistic about winning the election but emphasised that his broader objective was to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“We’re going to win. We’re looking at 62% to 65% of the votes. But higher than that, it will not be my win; it will be the win of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Kokofu said his victory would contribute to efforts to rebuild the NPP’s grassroots structures, unite party members and improve the party’s chances of returning to power in 2028.

“Our aim is to see Dr Mahamudu Bawumia win the next presidential election and secure a parliamentary majority for the NPP,” he added.

The former Bantama MP also dismissed allegations that he was camping delegates on election day to influence the outcome of the contest.

According to him, his campaign has centred on mobilising the grassroots, promoting unity and bringing members of the party together.

The Ashanti Regional chairmanship election has become a closely watched contest between two prominent NPP figures—Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, and Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a former Bantama MP and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency.
