Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially intensified consultations ahead of his anticipated bid for the National Chairmanship position of the New Patriotic Party, following high-level courtesy visits to former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In a statement issued on May 13, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said the engagements formed part of broader stakeholder consultations as he prepares to formally contest the party’s top administrative position once nominations are opened.

According to the statement, the meetings focused on party unity, rebuilding efforts following the 2024 general elections, and strategies toward positioning the NPP for victory in the 2028 polls.

Chairman Wontumi expressed appreciation to both leaders for their years of service, leadership, and continued dedication to the party.

He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP and pledged to support efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s structures and reconnecting with the grassroots.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman reportedly informed both Dr. Bawumia and former President Akufo-Addo of his intention to contest the National Chairmanship race, stressing that his ambition is rooted in service, unity, discipline, and grassroots mobilisation.

He further assured party faithful that his campaign would remain respectful and issue-based, distancing it from personal attacks, intimidation, or divisive tactics that could undermine internal cohesion.

The statement highlighted Chairman Wontumi’s longstanding contribution to the growth of the NPP, citing his grassroots appeal, mobilisation strength, and political visibility as key assets expected to shape the upcoming internal contest.
