Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) financier, George Oti Bonsu, has disclosed that he has received death threats after forming the Base Movement, a new political force.
Speaking in an interview on Adekye Nsroma on UTV, excerpts of which have been shared on social media, the founder and leader of the Base Movement stated that he had been cautioned that he was taking the NPP backwards and therefore needed to desist.
He explained that, for him, even if the Base Movement survives and he dies, he would be satisfied.
“I have received a lot of threats that if I don’t take care, they would kill me because I have been taking the NPP backwards. Some people have even come out publicly to say so. I don’t want to talk about NPP people but rather the Base party. If I even die and the Base party survives, I am okay with that,” he said.
It may be recalled that, speaking at the launch of the Base Movement in Accra on April 20, 2026, Oti Bonsu said he would personally vote for any businessman who contests an election, citing their role in reducing unemployment and addressing social challenges.
“In this country, if any businessman stands for any election, I will vote for that person. If Ibrahim Mahama, Kennedy Agyapong, or any businessman who can provide jobs for the youth contests, that person should be supported,” he stated.
According to him, business leaders possess practical experience in wealth creation and are more likely to implement policies that directly impact livelihoods, particularly for young people.
Oti Bonsu said the newly formed Base Movement is focused on empowering the youth and offering them renewed hope.
Why George Bonsu said people should vote for Ken, Ibrahim Mahama in any election
“The Base has come for the youth. We are done with life and have nothing to gain anymore, but you are the future leaders of this country,” he said.
He subsequently called on young people to rally behind the movement.
The event marked the official unveiling of the group, which he said aims to reshape political engagement and leadership selection in Ghana.
Among key figures associated with the movement is veteran Kumawood actor Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, who is expected to play a leading role.
The emergence of the Base Movement has already sparked speculation about possible political alignments, particularly with supporters of Kennedy Agyapong.
The former Assin Central Member of Parliament previously contested the NPP’s presidential primaries but lost to former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in both the 2023 and 2026 races.
