The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has asked President John Dramani Mahama to forgive him if he has wronged him in any way.

According to Chairman Wontumi, prior to Mahama becoming president, he was actively working for his party and therefore made statements against him to promote the NPP.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with 1957 News, Wontumi explained that he would urge Mahama to peacefully hand over the presidency to the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, when the time comes.

“If I meet Mahama, he is our president. At the time he was contesting, I had to work for my party. But now he is our president, so what I will tell him is that the same way Akufo-Addo handed over to him, he should also hand over to Dr Bawumia,” he said.

He emphasised that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo handed over power peacefully to Mahama. Therefore, Mahama should also do the same for the NPP candidate when the election period arrives.

“Once we are human, sometimes we are not above asking for forgiveness. So, if I have offended him (Mahama), I am no bigger than asking for forgiveness. If I have done anything wrong, willingly or unwillingly, I will say I am sorry,” Wontumi added.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has declared his intention to contest for the NPP's national chairmanship.

He stated that his goal is to serve the party and work towards capturing power in the 2028 general elections.
