When Prof. Obiri Danso became VC in 2016, he changed the ID to the likes of Ghana Card.
The card also has the chip in it.
The card can be used to enter the halls, faculty areas, administration, library and any other restricted place by swiping it close to the biometric passages on campus. Without that card, you can hardly access important things and places on campus.

Plus, the ID card is also a Master Card. You can receive or load money onto it. You can also withdraw money from it using the ATMs available. It can be used for transactions.

Currently, is Ghana card used to access biometrically restricted zones?
Is it currently used as a Master Card ?

KNUST was ahead before Bawumia was elected into office.
Verify it if you want. Or ask any KNUST student/Aluminus.

I can say Bawumia imitated KNUST Card system, because KNUST started it in Ghana.
