A former Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has praised former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the NDC's biggest fear.

Speaking on Joy Prime on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the former lawmaker said that the NDC has no negative message to spread about Dr Bawumia ahead of the 2028 election in an attempt to deceive Ghanaians.

“From where I sit, their biggest fear is Dr Bawumia. That's their biggest fear. All the things that they want to say about him, they have already said it. What are they going to say again in 2028?” he said.

Egyapa Mercer went on to say that Ghanaians are already familiar with Dr Bawumia, and now that he is no longer in government, this is the ideal time for him to tell his story and share his vision with the people.

“Ghanaians know him and now he's not in government. They will have the opportunity to tell his story without any pressure, without any recurring issues that would take his time of telling his story,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia officially filed his nomination forms at the NPP Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Dr Bawumia makes convincing case for why he should be NPP 2028 flagbearer

The New Patriotic Party has also set January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.

Dr Bawumia, whose nomination form was picked by a group of some 400 NPP youth organisers, is one of the key contenders going into the race.
